First Shield Nickel!!!

Today I got permission to hunt a small strip, and I was able to turn up a Shield Nickel. This is the first one I've ever found. Shields are pretty old for my area, so they're rare. Too bad the date is worn completely off, but I'll take it! The SE is still hot on the old nickels!

I also found a 1941 D Wheat. The area was super clean besides these finds.

Cool, Shield nickels dont weather well.The more stuff you find the better you get.

Congrats - a 'detecting first' is always a special moment - you'll never forget the circumstances. Those nickels wore poorly...it's surprising when they have a readable date. In 9+ years of detecting, I think I've found only 4 or 5. And yes, the SE 'kills' nickels, at least in Ferrous tones.
