I went to an old park this morning, and searched a spot I did back in the spring, when I found a couple silver dimes. It was blustery, about 45 F with wind gusting to 25 mph or so. I love these conditions because you have the park to yourself. I was surprised to hit four clad quarters pretty quickly since I thought I had covered this area pretty well. I was really dialed in this morning, didn't dig any junk, and the signals were really jumping out. After finding the four quarters in about 6 digs, I thought if I missed those, I could have missed silver. The soil is moister than in the spring, and the grass is cut shorter.
I then hit a classic flutey silver signal, down about 7 inches deep and knew it was a good one. The FE/CO readings were actually not fluctuating that much, about the same as if it was a 4 inch deep clad quarter. Dug down and found my first seated coin. It was almost exactly 7 inches down (measured with Lesche). I was so excited I could only detect for another 45 minutes. Only one wheat cent.
I am 3 for 3 this week on my hunts: a 1939 Merc. on Monday, half of a 1938 Merc. on Wednesday, and this today.
