First Seated and First half dime!

I have had a few fake-out tokens that had me thinking I had a half dime, but yesterday I really got one. It came out of the ground completely encrusted in black, and after an electrolysis treatment, it came clean enough to see. She is in pretty bad shape, but it is the first seated liberty coin that I have found and my new oldest coin 1872. Thanks for looking and good luck out there, you never know what will be in your next plug! HH!

That is an amazing find for up here, Its hard to find anything seated let alone a half dime. Way to go Jon!!!!

most of my Seated Liberties, Halves, Quarters, Dimes and Half-Dimes have come from various locations in Utah. I nabbed some in Arizona, only two in California, and Oregon, Nevada and Wyoming have been kind to me, but nothing like Utah. Some urban renovation work or old vacant lots and demolition sites, but mostly from railroad towns and other older, long-empty communities.

What type of site were you hunting?

Which detector and coil used, out of curiosity?

Has the coin been exposed to any salty environment or does it have any other build-up or residue on it? Quite a few of mine came from towns/locations too close to the Great Salt Lake and the salt build-up on those coins from the alkaline desert soils had a good deal of residue that took some extra effort to clean. I also had some old Seated Liberty and barber coins that came out of older parking strips that saw a lot of salt build-up from folks melting ice ion the sidewalk and street plows clearing the snow and ice off of the road ... leaving the salty mix to melt down into the parking strip soil. Those also sometimes had some bad condition to them.

Anyway, Congrats! It's nice to make a good '1st' in any category.
