First Safari Outing

I love this detector! My first day out today and dug a ton a clad and a womens watch. No old silver but that was just the area I was in. Pinpoint mode on this thing is deadly. Dead on every time. The tones and change in pitch were quite easy to pick up, but I also play guitar so its a little easier for me to hear. It will take me some time to learn the numbers but you sure know when you hit a coin, locks on hard. Pennies 34-35 dimes 36-37 and quarters were 38-39, pulltabs ranging anywhere from the teens to uper 20's sometimes. The watch locked on at a 31. The only thing I noticed is that the numbers lagged a little behind the tones, I'd have to pull the detector away and let it reset almost. Is it supposed to do that? It also uses the juice. I hunted 5 hours today and drained a brand new set of energizers down to half but wasnt using headphones either. All in all I really like it and cant wait to get out with it again. Josh

I have a SAFARI on the way,How is it on depth??I was told that the pinpoint is good too,I had a T2 its a very deep digging detector with out a dought
I hope the new mine lab is as deep digging ,What do you guys think of the safari as a relic detector????,Well i cant wait till it gets here!!!!:minelab:

So far I am VERY PLEASED with the Safari as a relic machine. It is easily the deepest I have ever used, and I have just started to learn the Safari. I look forward to really learning the machine and getting full potential from it.

I love the GOOD news about the new Safari! I just wish summer was here so I can try out mine!. Its frustrating having a new toy and not being able to use it!!!!

Having a terrible time with my Safari and I am not a newbie. I think I got a lemon. Sending it back next week to see if it is malfunctuning. My avatar is right on! Onus

Good news on the Safari! Congrats. I hunt with a Quattro. The numbers you are getting match pretty much what I get with the Quattro.
With my Quattro I get about 12 hours on a set of Alkaline batteries, with headphones. Sounds pretty close to what you are getting. It does go through batteries.
May have something to do with the 28 frequencies?
Onus,
Are you Monty? If not you are the second person I've heard of that got a Safari that didn't work properly out of the box.

Good Luck All,
Mark

I have had the Safari for a week now and I really like this machine!! but I thought that it was broke out of the box myself but I realized that this detector is processing so much info compared to the MXT , i found that I could detect and swing as fast as I wanted but when I hit a good target that is when I had to really stop and go over it a lot and when I did this the vdi was right on but I have to let the machine think a little longer compared to a single freq , especially in trashy areas, I am getting Mastering the Quattro hopefully this book will sort even more info out for me .

Andy's book has a bunch of great info that you don't find in the manual. It will help anybody learn the Safari.

Been out several times now with my safari, I love it, it is a little slow with its recovery speed, but I have to agree with crock with all those wonderful frequencies bombarding the ground at the same time it is alot to process. Its trying to multi task, I have slowed down my swing to almost a crawl, I admit when I first used it I wasn't to sure if I made the right purchase. After getting to know the machine a little better, I am positive I made a good choice. I will be going to an old amusement park/ casino that has been around since the early 1880's. I have a friend who had found a lot of silver coins back in the 70's-early 80's. He used a White's 5000D or something like that, it was the detector with the blue metal box under the handle. Well anyhow, the detector was good in it's day, but this is a new ady with newer technology, and what was thought to be hunted out is no longer the case.
My relic hunting spots are still inaccessable with mud a some frosty ground. Although I stopped at one spot on my way home from work to check the condtions, still some frost, I think I may have located a cache along the side of a cellar hole. This is a very secluded spot and far as I know I have been the only one to touch it with a detector. I found an 1856 soaring eagle penny at this site, 3 or 4 years ago. Looking forward to the day!!

Have a Great day everyone.
