So I took the Etrac out to a modernish park that I have hunted before. Moderate trash and number of targets. One thing I forgot was my Chinese phrase book! Geez this thing goes deep on incredibly small targets.

So we found clad, copper and zinc pennies, usual park stuff around here. I did find multi tones a bit overwhelming and switched to four tones. So my question is, am I really missing a lot of info using four tones or even two tones? I could get used to multi I guess but my hearing isn't the best and the multi tones wears on me after a bit.

In the trashiest part of the park I tried the park pattern from Bill_S and dug a dime down 8" in the junk. Thought it might be silver but it was a blasted 1965! Not that I expected silver in this spot but I would hit the first year they made a clad dime, not the last silver.:ranting:

Still digging most targets as I learn the machine but I can see tons of potential here and look forward to learning it.

I did just get permission to hunt an 1800's lot. Owner said building came down long ago and it became a private courtyard for the adjacent building. Doesn't know if it's ever been hunted but did say there's tons of old nails and iron trash in the ground. I would appreciate any tips for tackling this lot! Will also take the AT-Pro withe the small coil to compare. I've been pretty good in trash with it before but I suspect the E-Trac should do really well if I get it figured out.

Just hang in there and do like your doing. You will get used to all the sounds (in multi) and once you do you will be able to tell good coins by sound. In the trashier parts of the park I would continue to use some discrim until you get it figured out. Im sure some will advise you to hunt the lot in two tone ferrous if its nail infested but I have not used it so I cant give you any help with that one......

Last spring when I got my E-Trac I just started hitting the park closest to my house and hit it over and over again from different directions using the coins program and then with a small 8 in Sunray coil with TTF before I said that I thought I cleaned it out.

NOPE, I'm still finding things there. EVEN SLOWER sweeping and more intense listening now and a more open screen with smaller coils not larger. The E goes plenty deep to hit what's there especially now that the soil is moist.

I dig everything now just to see what is left and in the last couple of weeks I have found 2 silver 1964 rosies, three rings 2 silver and one 10K gold in the same hole what a screwy signal that was, a 1927 buffalo nickel way numbers lots of co-located trash, and some kind of token.

Don't give up and don't get discouraged just have at it and dig things and see.

I had one signal last year I must have skipped in Conductive mode but when I used TTF it was a high tone but read like 25 conductive and usually that is pulltabs here but I dug it because of the high tone it was a silver rosie and a silver war nickel in the same hole right tight together.

SO just because a conductive signal number isn't quite right doesn't mean it's trash it could be co-located targets!!

I haven't found anyting to be too deep yet around here but seperation is King to me the way I keep finding things with different directions and SMALLER coils not larger. Less soil and targets to process under the coil giving better signals and seperation!!

minelab says you can tell the difference between a copper and zinc penny (or something like that) by the difference in tone when in multi,,,, but like you my ears are not that talented and I went to four tone. Just remember to dig the mid tones if you want the gold.... I read all the time to "just dig the high tones" and that is fine if your just looking for silver. You will get a few pull tabs but you know the price to be paid for gold,,,, HH

Only advise I have it to send me the address and I'll meet ya there :)... have fun witht the location... new spots are always exciting. Go slow! HH, MIke
