First Run with the new F5....

Wacko

New member
Well the new machine came and I have had a few hours to play with it. I must say it has been easier than I thought to get it up and running. I know I might not be at maximum performance with it, but I was finding stuff !! :yo:

Of course all the posts I read on here, and from Mike Hillis, jump started me too !!!

My recovery techniques are getting better. It is really daunting to get a good high tone at 6" in a park and dig it...if you care what it looks like after that is. Matter of fact my first couple hours into digging and I said "I need a pin pointer if I'm going to keep this up". It helped alot today. I bought a garrett pro pointer. Wonderful addition to my bag 'o tricks. I will continue to work on pinpointing and such with the machine, but I am definitely going to keep using the pin pointer for a while.

As a side note, I had my son tag along on the first outing. He was teasing and telling me he wanted to watch me pull nails and screws out of the ground. Should have seen the look on his face when I started pulling coins all over...:surprised: Last night he was on the net looking at machines and u-tube vids...he he. The plan just might work.

So my finds as of right now : 14 pennies, 7 nickles, 16 dimes, 12 quarters, 2 Mexico coins, and the find of the 2 hunts in my opinion : an English 2 pence coin...When it came out of the ground I was like "How the ___ did you get here". Dug a bunch 'o trash too - pull-tabs, iron, metal buttons and such...

What a hoot....thanks all !!

Happy Hunting !!

This hobby is a hoot. It is just fun to follows that magic wand around and you know, every so often you find something that can be spent, saved or is just plain interesting. Yes, this hobby is a hoot. You nailed it!!!

Sounds like you're having fun Wacko, keep it up!

As far as the Pro-Pointer goes, I'll agree with you that it is just about the best thing since sliced bread.

I found the F5 with the stock 5X10 coil is pretty much spot on for pinpointing. If you want to get more accurate, detune a time or two.

Well, one more hunt today. The clad count continues to rise : 4 quarters, 5 dimes, 3 nickles, 5 pennies - and some trash of course.

Tried the screwdriver / probe deal today. Works pretty good. Not worried about old coins here so practicing on the clad. The pin pointer is a must have now in my opinion. Finding the target becomes a snap. Quicker recoveries, more targets, more chance at "good" stuff.

My pinpointing with the F5 has gotten pretty spot on. I practiced several times by just laying coins on the ground and pinpointing over them. Raising the coil and repeat until the signal was gone. Helped alot.

My son found out I went out again and called me to find out where I was. Then hustled his butt down to "help" me. Gonna let him take a little bit more line before I set the hook.
