First run with the Excal 800

After weeks of trying to get out the beach, today I was finally able to get a test run on the 800. To start off, I was at a freshwater beach.

I was really amazed with it. It is extremely sensitive to even tiny flakes of aluminum. I was worried about losing depth with the 800 coil, but I was digging some very deep coins today. In one fashion, it felt like I was hunting this beach for the first time (I've been hunting it for almost a decade!). It went: dig a tab, step, tab, step, tab, etc etc. For all the tabs and cans I dug today I didn't find a single ring. I dug a few coins; all are clad but they have been under water for years.

The sounds are different from the single tone I'm used to, but I really like them. I also have an idea of what class of item I'm about to dig and I can tell when a target is shallow or deep. I also really like the custom rod with my Excal. I thought it was a tad short when I bought it, so I added an extension rod from my White's 3-piece diver rod. Now I can get a solid 6 foot arc when I swing!

Over-all it's a sure winner and will now be my go-to machine for the water!

water hunting is great fun....enjoy....i find stud earings ocasionally at fresh water beach...usually sound like small chirp..good luck...

Good choice jason, I think you be very happy with your new machine....Good Luck..joe

Someday you will hear the sound of gold under your coil. When I hear the target I try to guess it before I see it. Love the sound ID
