First ring

After 3 weeks of owning a metal detector, the ACE 200, the one that replaced the 150, the low range on the detector scale, this morning I found my first ring.

Right in my back yard, on the beach down by the river, I found what I believe to be a ladies gold ring. Don't know for sure if its gold, but I plan to have it
checked out this afternoon. It has writing on the inside, but too small for me to read even with reading glasses.

It also has what appears to be a diamond in the middle. There again, I need to have it checked out to verify. All the same, I am pumped. Found it around 6 inches in a grassy area of the beach. Registered a consistent 26 on the meter, in the jewelry mode.

Found two Lincoln head pennies too and a bullet. We have lived here for 18 years, and no one has ever mentioned losing a ring. So it had to be a visitor or someone who was here
before we bought the place.

Quite pleased. Don't know what I would do without my Makro pin pointer. Love it.

On another note, I have used my ACE 200 for approx 6 hours total since buying, and that would include when it's laying on the ground while still turned on. I have never left the
machine on by accident. After 6 hours, as symbol on the detector has indicated to me I need to change batteries. Whew, that seems pretty fast.

Congrats on that gold ring  If there is writing on it, there is even a greater chance of it being gold. It will probably be a stamp of how much gold it is. ie 10k, 14k, 18k. You probably just payed for half your ACE 200. WTG!

Like John said, take a good look at that small writing inside the ring. Something like 10K, 14K, 18K means you got gold. If you see .925 you got silver.

Suggestion ... get yourself a small magnifying glass to carry with you. For example, I keep a small plastic one in my pouch. It's the size of a credit card, and it has an LED light. It can help in the field, because if you can read the date on an old coin you just dug up, you have a clue as to how old other targets might be, that are around in that same area.

Latest on ring. 10k tulip ring. Belonged to my daughter who lost it approx 15 years ago.
She had a set of 3 tulip rings she would wear together. One was lost but now found.
She was so happy.

Most awesome.....swing and they will come. Hopefully this year will take off many things on a bucket list....don't have one? Time to get the ducks in order. Looking forward to your post and some photos!

Thank you Leslie. My daughter was extremely happy about finding her ring. Couldn't hardly believe that old daddy found her ring after this long. Now she is a believer and wants to swing with me.

Years ago she had allowed one of her twin daughters to wear it in the yard as she played. She was perhaps around 4 years old. And it fell off her finger.

Bucket list? My bucket list consists of learning many things. I've quit trying to get better at all things, just learn something new every year or so.

Nova Scotia? Sounds like a beautiful place, and I've heard it's a beautiful place. Good for you.

Excellent find on the daughter's ring and what a good daddy you are and gold to boot. HH.

That's got to be an awesome feeling finding a ring then returning it to the person who lost it. I can't wait for it to happen to me, congrats!

Just curious-were you using headphones? Battery life is much longer with them.

No headphones. The truth is, thinking the batteries were going dead prematurely proved to be a rookie mistake. Batteries are still going strong.
I haven't used headphones yet, but it's on my wish list.

A lot has transpired since the orginal post.
Sold the Ace 200 to my brother.
Detectors owned since:
Delta 4000 = sold
Omega 6000 = sold
Fisher F22 = sold
Tesoro DeLeon = love it.
Makro Red Racer = love it

8 more rings, 3 silvers, gold bracelet, over 1200 clad coins.

If the Ace 200 had built in pin point, on hindsight, I probably would not had sold it so quick, or at all. It's a really solid built detector. Hey, found my first ring with that $160 md.

Actually all of the detectors listed above were very good detectors for finding coins and jewelry. The Deleon has proven to be a big time winner. Red Racer right on it's tail.

thats cool
