First Ring...Time Frame?

Hello All,

Was wondering the era of this ring. It rang up as silver on my Safari, but it feels more like pewter and isn't cleaning up like silver. The picture is pre-cleanup. There is some kind of mark on the band inside but it is unreadable to me. I tried a magnifying glass but still couldn't read it.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Bunker

Hey Bunker. Nice find ! I'm an MXT user and know nothing about the performance characteristics of the minelabs so this is just a guess. If they respond similar to my Whites my guess is that it may be copper (? or other non-silver metal ) that "rang up" into the silver range from being wadded up into a pretty uniform, round shape changing its conductive properties. MHO I hope you can get it straightened out and post a pic. From the little styling I can make out it looks pretty old. Sorry that's as specific as I can guess on the date. Congratulations.

Thanks Srf2112,
The ring is a little more silver in color then the picture posted as. I know what you mean about changing characteristics, I have memorial pennies ringing up higher then expected. The ring has a definite period style to it, hopefully someone will recognize it. Thanks again for looking and your input.

I believe a good guess would be that it is an Art Nouveau period ring ..... 1875 - 1919 ..... they used a material they called Belgian pewter on many pieces.

Bingo!!! Thanks Bill67. That was the period I was looking for. Now to do a little more digging and find something about this particular ring.
I better get cracking!!

Hey Bunker. If you get that ring straightened out, literally, We'd love to see a picture. If a jeweler can re-shape it back into a ring who knows what it will look like then. Good luck.
