First Ring and Silver Quarter with the V3i

After heeding the advice of Cybersage and Earthmansurfer I made some adjustments and headed off this afternoon for the plantation home. The last two times out there I've gotten skunked. But after today things are getting better! Between running the modulation at 3 and changing over to correlate on the deep silver program along with adjusting my swing at a 90 degree turn when a target comes on the screen, I've noticed a HUGE difference today. (I also adjusted the BCR to 3, per the advice of Rob and Earthmansurfer. The cut nails are also easier to distinguish now.) The amount of trash I am digging has gone down considerably. This machine is phenomenal! So far at this home for five hunts and a total of 16 hours, I've found the 43' merc, the 07' injun and now the 64' Washington and Sterling Ring. I found the ring at around 4 1/2 inches. (I have added the VDI's of +18 - +23 so I won't lose nickels and small rings such as this one.) I've never seen the Sterling U mark on a ring before however. Does anyone know if this is costume jewelry or is it really sterling silver?

Congrats ! Your doing great:thumbup: The ring says sterling , it looks sterling to me. Alot of the guys hunt with bottle cap reject on but you need to read what CyberSage,s advise is on bottle Cap rejection, If you can learn to hunt with bottle cap reg off (As I have) you will get a little more depth and can find deeper coins. CyberSage also has some great videos on diff subjects that can help you. Check it out. Any other questions feel free to ask, somebody will help you.
Hope this helps you

Great news Sgt. Silverman!!! :hot:

Great feeling to hear you have turned thing around. That said I hear what Jim is saying. The less forms of discrimination we use the better it will be in the end, so still play with it. I don't think BCR at 2 will affect your depth much if you are hunting in iron, but in clear patches I could imagine it might happen as perhaps it causes a breakup at extreme depth. If you have a deepy in your coin garden check it out. I haven't tested BCR much at all.

I run modulation at 2 and Cybersage has the V3 so it's the opposite setting (he runs 4 I believe). I wouldn't run at 3 as I have noticed more modulation if I remember correctly. 2 seemed to just affect deep iron and made zero difference on deep coins. On a 9 inch buried Nickel in iron it made no difference for me but 3 did start to modulate. Worth checking and correct me if I'm wrong.

Last thing - The V3i has a lot of settings and I find that I stay with settings that work after testing them but when sites or conditions change (e.g. - after a rain) it's worth checking on a target. The machine isn't really complicated but touchy if you adjust something in the wrong way - it's not self correcting. I generally only adjust settings that matter on a target that I find.

No clue on the ring "u" thing. If it was 4" deep and in good shape though, that might tell you something.

Again good job,
EMS

It sure looks like Sterling to me Greg. You are getting pretty good with that V3i.... :clapping:

It's silver and as I showed the newest it can be is 1988. I'm sure it is much older. ROB
