First relic hunt with my MX Sport

Daniel's videos got my juices running and it being such a nice day, decided to drive a few blocks to my CW bullet honey hole. So far I've found 11 .69 bullets and musket balls in a small area, so I'm thinking it's hunted out. All the bullets showed up as zinc pennies on the screen. However, my previous hunts with the MXS was strictly in Coin and Jewelry mode. I think that mode nulls out iron and notches out a lot of junk.

So I start my hunt in C&J mode for about 45min. Nothing. I then switched to Relic mode and I could hear many more targets. The 3 musket balls I found today all gave mixed signals, They all had iron nearby and the signals bounced around tremendously, but they were diggable because there were high tones mixed in with the iron.

On a funny note....I couldn't find 4 targets that sounded decent. After digging the 4th 12" hole I looked at the others and they were in a straight line!. I'm thinking that I got duped by a deep lead pipe....

The nails in the picture were found in the holes with the musket balls. At no time did the unit 'false' on nails.

When I thought i had a good target I would bump the sensitivity up to amplify it and bring it out of the iron. Otherwise, I kept it at 5 or i would be digging all kinds of small foil.

I consider my 2.5 hours of hunting today a success. I've hunted more hours with fewer finds many times.

Can you see it? Great pinpointing, eh? About 7"- 8" deep

Here's the rest of the stuff:

Interesting first hunt finds John.. Good job.. keep us posted John ... I would like to hear more about your experiences..

That's awesome you can dig such precious items that close to home John. I regularly drive from Michigan to Maryland for my American civil war fix. I think the mx sport is a winner. I'm getting to learn mine more and more everyday. Pounded a class ring with it a few weeks back, solid 26. I like all metal and love coin and jewelry. That relic mode is taking some getting used to. Seems noisy. Definitely deep. That machine is a winner. Tried the two tone in a yard after you explained it to me, didn't work so well for me, but four tone did. Two tone I was digging to much, but two tone would be sweet in a civil war site as we usually dig everything. Used my mxt pro yesterday, sport is deeper, no doubt about it. Keep us posted . Good luck.

congrats ,might be a killer button around there somewhere.

I got a couple of fields that I cant wait till they get cut.
