First real trip!

Hey all,
Just thought I would share a little of my story from the trip I went on with the Coiltek Gold Centre/ Doug Stone Tour. I will be compiling a complete story of the trip so this is a preview.

Having been in the industry now for 10 years, 3 at Minelab and the rest at Coiltek my actual practical experience is low compared to the technical. Only about 10 hrs in Victoria and the same in Adelaide (hills) was all I have done looking for Gold. Apart from the occasional beach prospect I am a complete rookie out in the field. I was fortunte enough to get myself onto one of the trips over to the Pilbara region of WA in June, and what a trip it was.

I guess I should also mention that I have never found a piece of gold before this trip. However I reckon I would be in the right frame of mind as I test nearly all the coils we produce with gold so my ears might have some prior knowledge!

We arrived at camp on the first day and met all the tag alongs who were keen to get set up and detect. There was a gentleman from Holland and 2 Kiwi's on the trip so there was plenty of conversation. Once set up we headed about 1km away where there was great potential... as a matter of fact it all looked good to me!! I soon learnt what to look for and why there might be gold in the area. Within half an hour, Corey the cook called me over and he said he had a good signal and that this could be mine! He knew I haven't found gold before so it was the perfect way to get a start... what a guy! Out popped my first colour! (Picture #2) What a feeling... I shook his hand and smiled for hours...

Later in the trip one of the prospectors was lucky enough to walk over a 14 ouncer at about 1 foot down. I must say it was a great buzz to see that guys face and also to feel the excitement around the camp. He was like a rock star... everyone wanted photos and to hold the nugget. It is pictured below on the bonnet of the 4WD. Bloody beautiful!

There were many other mini stories but I will tell them in the feature story.
Personally... I managed to score about 47 grams plus a 20 gram specie which are picture on the coil I used. I am completely blown away by the whole experience and can't wait to spread my enthusiasm around! It was great to finally use what I make and also realise how hard it can be walking around everywhere swinging, but I loved it! I now want to get out more but have to be nice to the misses!! All in all the trip was a great success with over a kilo of gold found collectively by 10 people in 10.5 days.

I am a changed man!
Take care all
Trev @ Coiltek.

I'd say you did yourself proud for the first time out.

There is many a detectorist who has been swinging a detector over here that has yet to score their first piece of gold, so you are miles ahead of the pack!

Take care!
