First Real Hunt

I've wanted a detector for years and finally got an ACE 250 for Christmas. It was unseasonably warm so I headed for a small local playground for my first hunt (other than practicing in my yard.) Didn't find anything old but I got 5 dimes, 1 nickel, and 17 pennies along with a pocket full of misc. trash items. I was pretty excited for my first attempt. Weather is turning bad again but I can't wait to try some place where I can find some old stuff.

I tried to upload a picture but I'm doing something wrong. It only tries to load a link to my hard drive. Can anyone tell me what I need to do ??

Well, I'm just as new as you are, so don't ask my advice on anything! LOL

(Edit- new on the forum, I mean, not new to detecting.)

However, I will say this- the Ace 250, from everything I have seen, is a great starter machine that packs a lot of bang for the buck. I think it has what it takes to find the older goodies, too, as long as you go to the right sites and practice.

Good luck!

pa- lol.....your dislike of nasty weather will only grow woesr the longer it prevents you from getting out with your MD. Congrats on the finds, and be patient....put yourself in some older locations, and you finds will continue to suprise you.

Are you hosting your pics on a site like Photobucket?

Sounds you did good as far as I'm concerned - I have days I don't get 5 cents worth.
And loading pic as a link works - you should see a second option after loading as a kink to inset link where you have the cursor.
You will see the link at first, then afterwards when you or someone else looks at the post, the link embeds the pic.
It's how I have done it anyway without saving pics on another site.
Anyway - WTG !
And it took me a few hunts before I ever found the first coin - I was happy with any junk at first just knowing the detector detected metal. Cans, screw tops, buried sprinkler heads, it was great! And it would scream a little better holding the coil up against the side of the truck. HH

I made a post about three months ago titled first real hunt. It was my first hunt with my GTI 2500 after using and Ace 250 for about 3 months. I found around 160 coins for just under 20 bucks. Here's my advice to you. Keep a log. Write down as much about each hunt as you want to. I do date, location, weather, time and a breakdown of what I find. I also write little reminders like "Go back asap" or "Great day!" When I started out, 10-20 coins was a great day. I can now do that in half an hour at most sites. When you go back and review your log after about 2-3 months you'll see just how good you've become. Great start.
