I met my new hunting friends for breakfast and discussed our plans for the day. We had about 60% chance of rain so we thought we stay close to town and try some coinshooting and see if the clear weather would hold for awhile. We hit three different sites before lunch the MXT did great. We all added some more clad to our treasure pouchs an had a great time. I kept pushing to go to the desert and the weather was holding so we picked up sub sandwich's and head to the desert. We drove out to an area I had been to many times to run my dogs never thought to bring my detector with me. Well were here he says. I said your kidding me My wife and I have walked our two dogs in this area for years. On the way out we talked about what we would be detecting for. We were hoping to find these unexploded bombs from some pre-WW2 bombing runs that were done in this area. I was excited but we could see lighting in the distance we knew we needed to get busy. we were all headed off in different directions with detectors a swinging. I started to hear some solid targets sounds, I was digging broken parts and spent fuses from larger 300# bombs. I was starting to get a little tired digging 12"-16" holes to find broken ones and parts to them. Then I got a overload lift coil message so I dug about a foot and found the top of a complete 300# unexploded bomb. Well there was no way for me to dig this monster out so i covered it up and started searching for the smaller ones. I was just about to give up when I uncovered my first complete bomb. Man was I excited. I let out a yell and held up my find. We all looked at it and passed it around. We deceided to keep trying but the rain was coming quickly and stopped us from searching for more. The new guy had the big find for the day.
