First Post, Recent Dig

Hello my name is Chad. I dig Moline, Il. I have spent the last six or seven years in rock quarries looking for materials for my classroom but access has become problematic. So now I metal detect.

I found this dime last weekend at a local park. It is regularly hunted and the signal was a solid 12-43 at 3-4 inches in the middle of the field. I do not understand how this coin has sat undisturbed for the last 20 years. I think it is proof positive on the quality of the etrac (at least that is how I sold it to my wife).

Silver is always welcome but the S on the back stands for super in my book!

Thanks for looking,

Chad

Very nice find!

I used to have to "sell things to my wife". Now she just rolls her eyes and chuckles. She is my best find so far!

Hello chad, I too live in moline and hunt with the e-trac locally. I visit this forum about every night and noticed your thread. Maybe we can get together and do some hunting before the weather gets to bad. Had my e-trac for about 5 months now and have made some nice finds. It does take time to learn this machine especially after using a whites idx pro and garret gtx1000. Both machines had their positives but they dont compare to the BIG E. Hope to hear from you and nice find by the way. What park did you find the barber in? I understand if you dont want to reveal your location.........heck we probably crossed paths at one time or another. Good luck in your hunting.

Hello Chad. Are you a teacher too? I metal detect for classroom materials as well. Relics and coins have been very beneficial to me in teaching. I'm in the southern part of Illinois. We should meet up for a hunt sometime. Great find by the way.

Very nice find Chad. I've often wondered about how a certain "signal" sat there undisturbed for countless coil swings. I can only say that, I've dug stuff up in "virgin" territory and went back 2 or 3 weeks later and dug something else up within a foot of my plug. And I was sure that I'd done the "circle the area" thing.

Who knows.

Thanks for the awesome picture. Lookin' forward to more. I do suggest getting together with some of these offers. Since doing that I find it is was more fun to hunt with someone, than not. Just another great aspect to this hobby.

Wow

If you were not hooked before your hooked now

The find and the mystery makes it just that much better

Great find and good picture

To JB and anyone else in NW Illinois and QC area.

My next hunt is Sylvan Island. I have been there before but quickly left due to the impossible conditions of the soil. I want to try some different configurations and give it another shot. Is there a more private way we can exchange info?

The more I hunt with the e-trac the more I realize that direction really matters. I did an experiment recently in a park where I hunted a 15x15 foot area in one direction only. Turned around 90 degrees and hunted that way and sure enough I was getting signals I wasn't before. I think a good strategy for all of us is to "change it up". Instead of charging in the same old way at your same old park... Go the other way... backwards from your thinking. You might be surprised at what you find.

That's precisely the conclusion I've come to as well. Especially if there is iron or other trash buried there as well....which there generally is.

I am a member. At least I think I am a member. Can a person even post here and not be a member? If there is a board moderator, maybe someone can point me in the correct direction.

I think you have to be a member for 30 days or make so many posts before you can use the private messaging. Congrats on a great detector and a very nice find. I occasionally hunt in the QC area. Maybe I'll run into you sometime. HH

Nice find Chad,
I have a saying about why coins turn up like that right out in the open and only 3-4 inches down...
"Miss by an inch, miss by a mile"
That's why it's so important to go slow and pay attention.
I've seen other guys out there swing like they had a weed whacker, and I'm thinking : go ahead buddy, wear your butt out and leave the good stuff for me !!
