Got my new Garrett Ace 250 yesterday. Got out this AM late and lasted about an hour but did get a handful of clad coins for my trouble. I will say that without my new Garrett Pin pointer these 57 year old eyes sure would have had a lot harder time of it. I think I have the right combo for me. Just got to figure out how to stay a little cooler so I will last longer here in extreme south Alabama.

deepsouth,I had an ace 250 about three years ago and it did me a good job..........hh......Dan
PS yep I know about them older eyes.......early morning late afternoon hunts help in this southern heat.

Its a cool 97 today in the shade I'll think I will stay in the ac indoors.I'm not to sure my wife will be to happy if I croak on her over some clad. Now that I'm older I just can"t seem to tolerate the heat anymore.I will leave it up to you youngsters

OK guys, I am so amazed at how easy the learning curve was on this ACE 250, yesterday was my first ever day of owning a detector of any kind. I know I probably missed several nickels but after just a few minutes (thanks to a previous bench test as recommended) my hole digging was relinquishing coins alot more than junk and believe me there was alot of junk there, pop tops, nails, etc. I know they say to dig everything when new at it, but due to the place I was digging (a frequently used rodeo grounds) it just did not seem like the thing to do. I went back out late 7pm ish, heat not much better but enjoyed it alot more for longer. Slept really good last night. I dont think im going to be much for coin shooting modern day locations. I do have a heavy interst in history, not just battlefields but the lives of everyday people in the past. I once worked briefly, surveying with the soil conservation service and from that came knowledge of many wooded locations of old home places in the middle of no where, mostly just old stone or flat rocks stacked as foundation for the old houses sheds and such. I think i will enjoy that alot more. Most of these places, the family/modern day owners live nearby and available to get permission. One observation I had from my soil conservation days was at almost every old home site from the 1800's there was usually a family graveyard as part of the property, and I observed that a lot of young children (siblings) buried next to one another, I was told by an old timer later the reason was, people had alot of children because the expectation of them all reaching adulthood was quite low. These details of life in the day have always facinated me.

We are extremely blessed in this day and age. Rarely do we lose children. Fascinated by and love the history of our great nation. HH
