First Post, New to Hobby, New Detector

Hi everyone,
My name is Greg Jones and I live in Bount County, East TN. After completing my which detector to by research in 2004, I casually mentioned to my wife that the Explorer II was the one I would like to get. This past Christmas she surprised me with a new Explorer II.
This winter has been mild as far as cold and snow but has been raining quite often. Wet Tennessee clay (muck) is not something you would want to play in. So all of my detecting has been in my yard (rental). In this learning phase I use Quickstart and IM 14 with Fast ON (lots of junk). I also tweak Threshold and Sensitivity. My finds include 10 clads and 3 wheaties. This rental was built in the 50s so the possibility for silver exists but have not found any yet.
My wife and I bought 17 wooded acres at the base of the Chilhowee Mountains and are building a house there. We are owner/builders, which means we are doing the work ourselves. No, I have never built a house before. Anyway I am hoping this property will yield some buried surprises. Cherokee and Creek Indians spent time in this area. One of my neighbors near our building site has a small can filled with arrowheads from his property.
This is the best forum for Explorer use, operation, electronics and general knowledge and I have learned a great deal. In time, I hope to be able to make useful contributions.

what a great Christmas gift!
Owner/builder? WOW! I guess that means you like staying busy! In any event, as you get some free time, it sure can't hurt to swing the detector on the new property. In some cases, the very act of clearing the ground and grading it will bring things nearer the surface, of couse some too will be buried even deeper, but the point is, not all is lost when the ground gets scraped.
Again, welcome, and I wish you the best on the construction and the MD-ing!

Thanks for the welcome Varmint. The house building is definitly a 7 day a week job, so when materials don't show up on time or when I'm just to tired (no spring chicken anymore) thats when I detect.
Thanks again for the welcome
Greg
