First post: New 505 for Christmas- not working- help

Hi everyone. I asked for a Bounty Hunter 505 for Christmas and I got one. I finally got around to messing with it this evening. It's new in the box but didn't come with the video.

I just plugged two new batteries into it. I followed the simple directions and I can't get a peep out of it. No tones coming out of it at all. It made two audible beeps when I first turned it on. It hasn't made another sound since. When I turn it off and turn it back on, no sound.

Will interference make it do this? I press the ground track button while it's upside down on the table. Then the directions say to wave objects past the coil and listen to the tones. I've waved several different items by it and not a peep. I have had arrows come up on the displays but they appear to be random. It won't read a silver quarter held under it.

Any ideas? I hope to stick around this forum because it looks like the place to be.

Thanks for any help.

Well, guys, never mind!! It was my fault. One of the 9 volts I tried using, I had used before (briefly in a deer camera but in the cold) and was not a full battery. I thought it was still good. The low battery light didn't light up.
Anyway, I took two new ones out of the package and it works like a charm! Everything reads as it should on the display. Now I can mess with it.

Thanks anyway!

Most problems with a detector stem from weak or dead batteries, or loose or dirty connections of the coil cables. Most detectors are built like tanks as far as the electronics are concerned (You do use em outdoors after all)...Glad to see you solved your problem...Go here, and contact support to see if they will ship you a video for the 505 (not sure they are still available)...In any case, you can find the manual here:

The 505 is about the same as the Sharp Shooter II

HH,

Well now, there's only one thing to do now.................get out and start.......:detecting:............:detecting: ..........:detecting:

I now own five detectors, but the 505 will always be special for being my first.
I have had really great luck using it at the beach. It ground balances when 3
of my other detectors can't & say that they are defaulting to the factory setting.

p.s.; the other four are White's: 5900Pro, XLT, MXT & DFX.
