First Post, But Hundreds of Hours On AT PRO

Got my detector last year. I live in Phoenix. Used it all over, the lake, volley ball courts, forest, desert, play grounds, Mexican ocean beaches, etc. The AT Pro is a coin machine! I use the smaller coil to get better target resolution. I was gonna post my first gold ring a few months ago, but whoopi doo lots of people get them. It took me 4-5 months before I found one. Today I decided to hunt in down town on a huge empty lot. I looked up google maps and found currently empty areas. I then looked up the same areas on historical photos from 1957. If they had houses or buildings on them then, I figure it would be a decent area.

Holy 1,000,000,000 targets batman!!!!

I got 3 hits on every single swing, and that is with disc at 39. I had trouble finding a place to ground balance there was so much junk in this ground. I spent 5 hours straight with no stopping......I'm only 42, lol. There were so many hits in the 40-60 range I could have walked over 2000 gold rings. The problem is the ground is so hard it takes 5 minutes to dig 3 inches.

So In the end I got a few quarters, a few wheat pennies, lots off plumbing fixtures, telephone cables, then some history.
I found an Arizona tax coin from 1937-1954. I thought that was worth way more in coolness factor than the $1.50 it's worth. So I find an old tree and

take the advice of many......found a spill of coins, nothing really good.
Then a RING!
Looked like junk. I wish I had take a before pic. It looked like steel and was mostly black/oxidized. Soaked it in Tarnx for 5 min to see if it was still junk....nope , silver 925! Took a polishing cloth and worked it for 30 min. I'm sure the stones are fake but ill find out tomorrow.
Sorry for the long first post, but it's hard to find a good spot in AZ since the state is so young and I'm excited to hit "old " areas .

Couple of nice rings, and that token is awesome. I know what you mean about posting pictures, when you see what some of the other's have in their photos, but everyone likes to see what's getting found. My first gold ring wouldn't cut the mustard as far as a great ring, but it was my first, I was plenty psyched (I have a whopping 5 now). I got over the being judged feeling, doesn't really happen here, so please continue to show your finds. Congrats Artie

Nice finds, especially that honey hole. I also know what you mean by posting stuff that you think people wouldn't be interested in; however, I think it helps motivate and support most of us. I think metal detecting is a mental exercise as well as physical; i.e., your mental frame of mind affects how you interpret signals. When I view other people's finds, it helps me and keeps the pastime interesting. It also helps right now where we are forecast to get 12 inches of snow today! Keep those posts coming!

Congratulations with your finds, and Welcome! :clapping: Yeah, I agree with what everybody said, and you put together a really nice post, good info, great picts, I bet you have a lot more good posts you can lay down here to get us through this winter, like one about hunting the Mex beaches? Anything, even when you ransack a totlot...it all helps us learn and grow!

Welcome to our forum, Gpracer.
Nice finds especially on the ring. That's a beauty. When I first started posting I didn't have a digital camera and bought one. Then it took a while to learn how to post the photos, then when I started water hunting, I damaged my camera twice but was fortunate enough to fix it both times. Now, I post the good stuff and the trash and appreciate the feedback from the members of this forum. I like the positive ;and learn from my mistakes. I'm proud of every ring I ever found, even the clad coins. Enjoyed your post and photos.
Lots of history in your area. I share a mutual regret with others that I don't get to metal detect as much as I want to, but hope to spend the entire day tomorrow enjoying my hobby. Good luck & happy hunting.

Glad you started posting. There are a bunch of great people posting on this forum. Just keep those great finds coming.

Nice finds there, Gpracer! :clapping: I like finding the old tokens, and the rings look great -- it would be unusual to put Diamonds / Rubies in Sterling, but not unheard of!! I don't think that anybody around here judges finds - we're just glad to get out of the house and spend some quality time with nature and our detectors. They haven't kicked me out for posting all my horseshoes and square nails.
