First Outing With The Skullies On The DFPI

Today was my first day in the water in a month. Hooked up with my Buddy CJ in what I would consider less than favorable conditions. In fact , at one point CJ came up to me and said, " we have to be nuts to be out here", and he was right.

It did settle down a little for a short time but not much, then it picked back up and it was dicey.

Today was the maiden voyage for the Skullies OBN made special for my DFPI. He has made them for the Excalibur and Sovereign GT for those fortunate enough to be on the list of ten that were to test them. As far as I know ALL reports have come back favorable.

I am the only one that has tried them on the DF and let me say, today I heard more faint targets than I have ever heard before. Also, most were deep targets today only because I was focusing on faints and it paid off.

The 1942 class ring that I thought was a 1926  ( don't ask how I could get 1926 out of 1946 but that's what happens when you don't wear your glasses ) was a very faint sound. I recovered it after about four scoops but estimate it was about 12"-14" down.

The two silver dimes were also deep and the one that is now disintegrated was down a couple scoops. Just by the age of some of my targets tells me I was getting down where I want to be.

Also, notice the lack of junk compared to good targets...another first for me. I know all days aren't gong to be like that, but it's a good start.

The big difference (for me) is the Skullies have a high frequency and I could hear the faint targets a lot better. Someone without a hearing problem might not like these because they may be to noisy for some people. I can't argue with the results and these are just what the doctor ordered.

Many thanks to OBN, you have opened a whole new area for me to hunt. All the places I have hunted will be new game for me and I am really excited about that.

Nice old Gold frank, before your call today I was planning on using the CZ20 this week, my first outing of the year besides the testing of the Skullies with the xcaliburs, Now I have to take the DF cause you sold me on my own HP's and what they can do with the DF.....It's going to be interesting because I'm very much a rookie with it, but will be digging all disruptives, faints, and drop outs.... And thank you frank for the report...I'm excited to get out again...joe

I know you set mine up a little different, but if they work the way mine do, there won't be any doubt at all when you hear a faint. " Good Luck" and look forward to your post....hopefully with gold in the Franklin.

very nice classy out here is blowing every weekend i just cant get in the water

Skullies, Speakered head phones. They use the same speakers as Blackwidows, Sunray ProGolds, Killer Bees..but are 100% Waterproof, And extremely louder and clearier compared to Piezo benders which are used in all UW Headphones....

They are Done for the year, kind of experimental. More next winter. The Set for the CTX and an adaptor for the wireless unit WM10

It was a crazy hunt with conditions as they were with waves trying to knock us off our feet you did a fine job Frank!!

Congrats on the old gold and how well the Skullies are working out for you!

You had to do some serious digging Pal!!

CJ

OBN, I would like to try a pair of Skullies one day myself.

I too could have a grin on my face like Franks!!:)

CJ

Good finds Frank  I like that HS ring . HH Jim

I can see why you used those speakers. The ProGolds I have for my GT are crisp. I do not use the limiter but at first I did. The un-limited switch setting is loud on the GT. I have to use the controls on the HP to lower the volume just a bit. Keeping the volume on the machine full helps depth so I use the phones pots to lower the volume a bit. The GT and Excal do best with full volume settings so turning up the volume to full is best. What are you doing to balance the Max volume with those speakers to allow safety? They are loud on large targets.

I can turn down the volume on the DF from the inside of the box. However, I can deal with the way it is and have found treasure on the three consecutive hunts so far. I never have heard as many faints during a hunt as I do know.

The first 12 Skullies Nothing, But have a second order coming on the audiosears that have varistor, or Blast Limiter. Also have come across a IP68 pot for the adjustment of the volume. All still in the early stages, that's why I did a few, give them some field time and at a great price. We learn, fine tune, and have the Best for water hunters.

Now have a second set of Skullies in the works that uses to different setup of speakers, the audiosears 2463's, same as the first but with the second speaker a Kobitone 500, same as used on the Rat Phones.....a deeper, richer audio. So one side is crisp and clear, the other has a fuller lower frequency range. I will be testing them in VB in a few weeks.
One thing I do know, the skullies now are the best you can get, special for the xtra depth in the PP mode. And from what FSA has told me, he is killing the deep treasure with the set on his Df.....Everyone that has used them and used other UW HP's say...Like Night and Day difference. Thanks Guys for the updates.....Joe

If in anyway the Varistor affects the audio in a negitive way, I will not use it unless requested.

Great gold find! such a nice ring ,cool :) and fair play to you and CJ for trying in bad conditions! OBN'S headphones are getting a good reputation, I bet the whole metal detecting community would buy a set!

Oh no, there wouldn't be any gold left for us to find if that happens.
