First outing with the F2 !!

Used the F2 this morning with the 4"coil at an iron infested older site with lots of modern trash that initially produced many false hightones with sensitivity set above 2 bars, the F2 actually worked better with 1 bar at this site. Modern twist off bottlecaps hit hard about 4" deep and dug a cap from an old flip top lighter with an 80 VDI at about 5".

Sensitivity set at 1 bar hit pennies and dimes with hightone audio response at 3" and strong enough to assume a bit more depth can be achieved in less contaminated areas. The tones are good enough IMHO but the meter is there to help nitpick and managed to snag a few nickels among the pulltabs using the VDI#'s. Seriously doubt i would use the notch and haven't tried that feature yet. Found lots junk , clad and 3 wheats today. Only used the 4" coil .

Seems to be a very sensitive detector and will hit targets well beyond the outer edge of the coil if senstivity is set too high (above halfway on sens) producing many false readings in high density target areas. Had many Hightone 80+ VDI hits on the initial sweep that reverted to an 07 at 90% sweep angle and was always iron as i dug more than a few to confirm.Just an initial commentary and not a review but enjoyed the F2 enough to post some thoughts.

Was contemplating getting an accessory coil for another detector but went for the F2 on a whim So far so good. For $199 i like it HH Bill

There are a lot of guys waiting in the wings on this detector. Makes for good reading for us who want to try one but might need a little nudge!

...not a review, you probably will come out of this unscathed. ;)

I haven't had to turn my sensitivity down below 4 yet. Maybe I'll detect the city dump for toasters and radios - 4 might not work there. Thanks for the F2 report Bill.

Hi Bob,

I only posted what i experienced at this site and the conditions which caused many concerns for other detectors also. Almost every few inches there is some form of decomposing iron along with modern trash and it doesn't take much for falsing to occur. Was actually pleased the F2 sensitivity could be adjusted so low and still find anything deeper than 1" with a 4" coil.

I wanted to try the F2 at this particular site for the first real hunt because my oldest find was an 1866 2 cent piece at 2" found with an M6 using a 5" EXcelerator coil digging a tone variance more than VDI#'s and almost gave up on this site prior to that find. I'd be pessimistic about the F2 if i had it at full Sens and no falsing :) If it wasn't for the rain kicking me out i was enjoying myself and would have liked to spend a few more hrs at this site.HH Bill

That sounds like a really challenging site. Stick with it, It sounds like you have a good handle on things. the way you describe the falsing reminds me a lot of the ID Edge when I run it hot. the good things is it sometimes keeps you from missing a good target when the sweep is not centered well (poor overlap) yet gives a high tone on good non-ferous targets.. which is a very cool thing for guys like me! ;)

Thanks for that information. It's really
important to hear other people's experiences
with the F2.
