First Outing with GT

I found some ground that was not snow covered and took my new GT to this park. It was 32 degrees and there was soft ground for the first 2 inches, followed by 3 to 4 inches of hard frost, and under that soft ground. It has been four years since I swung a sovereign and the Gt though heavy, is pretty well balanced and easy to swing. I hunted a pretty trashy section that I pounded last fall with a Coinstrike and CZ6a. I didn't expect anything deep, but that was a mistake on my part. I didn't find any silver, but I did find three wheats and two 1965 quarters. All of these coins were between 7 and 9 inches deep. I had absolutely no problems pinpointing by slowly swinging back and forth as I pulled the coil toward me. When the signal dropped off, the coin was about an inch and a half off the tip of the 10 coil. I forgot my pinpointer so the exact pinpointing made finding the coins super easy. I was lucky enough to find a Sunray meter and it too is a must have accessory. It locks on much better than the Minelab meter on my old Sovereign. I could only stand the cold and hard ground for about an hour. Rusty iron was not hard to figure out because it would the pinpoint would move slightly when you turned 90 degrees on the signal. I only dug one rusty nail and I figured it was rusty iron before I dug it. One question, can I spread the armrest to make it wider? I didn't want to try that in the cold fearing that it might break. I also got a Sunray 8 inch coil, but with the great separation of the 10 inch coil, I doubt that I will be putting that coil on very much. R.L.

I am new to this detector but am very seriously looking at getting a Sovereign GT. In your post you stated that you used a Sun-Ray meter and it was better than the Mine lab add-on where can I find this meter and what probe should I get?
