The UPS guy brought my new X-Terra 50 Wednesday afternoon but I had to wait until this morning for the first hunt since it's always dark when I get home from work in the evening. I did have a chance to sample a bunch of old coins which read as has already been posted.
I've owned a White's DFX, Fisher Coinstrike and I currently have and hunt with a Fisher CZ-70, Fisher CZ-3D, and EX II as well. I have to say besides being much lighter, the X-terra is very much like a CZ-70 when it comes to locking on targets, quick recovery with a much faster sweep speed than the EX II but it "sees" through the iron MUCH better than the 70 with much better target separation. I have found the EX II to be very tedious to use after mainly using the CZ-70 for the past couple of years but I find X-Terra much more user friendly and more fun to use. The X-Terra appears to ID right on more than 6 inches deep unlike the EX II with no bouncing.
I went to an old farmsite up the street this morning where I've hunted with the EXII, CZ-70, and the CZ-3D in the same location. Using the X-Terra in the same specific area in the front of the house I didn't find any new "good" targets. However, on the side of house that's full of iron, I gave up with the CZ-70 and the EX II since it was so bad as well as near the power supply which caused a ton of interference. With the X-Terra, I started finding a bunch of good targets right away in this really bad challenging area. I posted a pic of everything I dug today. I only dug targets that sounded good and locked on. I dug a 1957 Roosie at 4 inches that locked on 36. I dug what appears to be a super nice Civil War era large button that locked on 30 at about 5 inches. It says SCOVILL MFG CO WATERBURY on the back. One newer Jefferson nickel that locked on 12 at about 2 inches. Two 12 guage old shotgun shell bases that read 15 and 30 respectively at about 4 or more inches. Two 22 cases that read 15 at about 4 inches. One clad dime at about 6 inches that read 36. Seven copper memorials up to 6 inches deep that read 36 and two 40's wheaties at about 4 or so inches that read 36. Two zinc memorials that read 30 that were shallow. Lastly, some relic that read 27 about 5 inches. Overall, I concur with almost everything that has been posted so far. The target ID kind of forces you to dig deeper targets that lock like the EX II but you never know what it could be-for example- the button. I find that with the CZ-70 I often would not dig many lower conductive signals. This is a good example of what you can miss/not dig. One thing, the X-Terra is so long(at the shortest length)it won't fit into my new Minelab bag unlike the EXII. I really like the X-Terra so far and I'm looking forward to more hunting. Just my 2 cents...HH
