First Outing 2011

I have not even peeked into the forum in ages. About a month ago, I found an old issue of "The Searcher" in my briefcase and began to read it. It got me pretty depressed. It felt like spring would never arrive, and that I would never find anything ever again. Naturally I found other things to keep my mind off treasure hunting, and as the snow began to melt a few weeks ago, I put myself into detecting mode. I dug out all my gear and got it ready for 2011. I managed to get out for a quickie today right after work. FINALLY!!! To be honest, I left work early. I had just a little daylight left and hunted until my fingers were numb. This turned out to be half an hour past sunset. I had a lot of fun and a bit of luck. Scored the first wheat of 2011. 1956. Another wheat. 1918. Also first silver coin of 2011. 1958D dime. Some clad. Junk ring. A key. Nice to have the first bit of 2011 loot in rattling around all by itself in my treasure chest. Nice also to score the years first silver coin on first day out which I've never done before. I don't think I have, anyway.

Chris

I am going out tomorrow for sure. Then the weather man says we're in for a little more winter. BAH!!!

Welcome back Chris,
Good to see ya back in business. It feels great to get to dig again. I bought an At Pro for Xmas and loving it so far. Looks like a nice weekend coming up. I think I'm gonna be bretty sore by monday.

If it stays the way it was today maybe in another week or so I'll get to fire up the 250 and get out for a bit. Still have enough snow cover that there is no grass visible in the whole neighborhood. Parks still have 8 to 10 inches covering them. This time last year I had been out every day for a week. ]

Depressing, A week ago our ground was as hard as concrete. A few days of warm rain and conditions are actually quite good at present. Hope you get back at it soon!

Nice article, by the way.:wiggle: Welcome back:biggrin: Happy Hunting!:)

That is weird. I spent so much timre on that article and it contained so many references to russianbear in it for a long time. I hope they included the little mention that survived to my final draft.

Thanks for the link. It probably sounds odd to many of you, but I really did have to put detecting out of my mind during this dreary winter.

Chris

I am very close to getting an AT-Pro instead. It might make visiting the same old sites a new experience. You know how I feel about your advice. I wish I had followed it sooner concerning the 12.5 inch coil.

BTW, I have the propeller nugget in a cool display right in the front of my brag book. I had to stop sealing it up because most everybody wants to hold it. Gets the same comment every time. "It's heavier than it looks!"

Chris

Ours thawed in two warm days. Hopefully it will happen sooner rather than later where you are.
