FIRST MXT HUNT

I took my MXT to local parks that i have hunted for years. loads of modern trash. the DD 6x10 was a little tricky to pinpoint. i was scratching my head in the chiplot when i kept getting zinc signal and squeezing the trigger- it pinpointed three places at 1 inch down within a couple inches-- 3 pennies. OK i thought something was wrong at first. a sweep over and the machine went nuts. 16 more pennies and a +18--nickel in a 1 foot diameter area. 24 cent value coin spill- for granddaughters piggy. i'll take it. most important --i am learning the machine. the DD was replaced at home with the 950-- much more to my liking. i do not have experience with a DD but have with a widescan. At home the previous owners worked on cars in the backyard --10 years ago- good grief-- i call it cleaning the environment. but-- with the 950 i picked up quarters and nickles 6 + down, with accurate ID. I like the coin/jewelry mode better for this environment- but the relic mode showed me a lot of debris in the dirt and where, including foil., and i did remove some of it. the relic mode in the park traced out large buried track rail and other things i know are there from my deep scanning Compass xp350 and Eldorado widescan and my gurus Nautilus units. its nice to pick a target out on top of this deep iron. i do see the advantage of switching modes to check an iffy target. i am now spoiled to pinpoint accuracy this machine has, and just recently also started using a handheld pinpointer a Bullseye.

not worth pictures but a couple of bucks change- and the coloration shows they have been down a while -70's coins-- and a few whatnots that i can see would mimic a coin- brass washers- etc. fewer tabs-- the old thin tang beavers are problematic here, showing 24-26 the double holes are a solid +22. the tab notch works pretty good.

i do see the advantage of quality headphones with volume control. the DD will take practice and i see it more for the country and relic hunting. i may explore a smaller 5.3 in the future for this trashpile area. HH Carey

Pinpointing with the DD is pretty easy once you get used to it. Wiggle it back and forth across the target sliding back as you wiggle until you hear the target drop out of the field. By then you should have a fair idea of the line the target is on if the target is very shallow it is usually just at the tip of the coil. The deeper the target the further in to the coil the target will be. I have heard of people making marks on their coil top to mark where a target drops out of the field. Ground effects and gain will have some factor. X'ing the spot using the same method at 90 degrees to each other should get rid of any pull other targets may have on your pinpointing efforts. The 6X9 DD is a very sweet coil on the MXT. I usually find the target, get a depth, then start the wiggle and slide back routine. I have used this method with both the standard DD and SEF it works well either way.
