First metal detector.

What will be the primary use? I am asking if you will be looking for coins, relics, prospecting, or a combination of these. Will you be hunting on dry land, the beach, or under water as these also need to be considered. Are there any physical limitations such as weight, hearing, age, etc? All of these are important and should also be considered in order to make a suggestion.

I will probably be looking for relics and coins.
It will be on dry land.
There are no physical limitations

I like the Explorer11 for a lot of reasons and even as a first metal detector. There are preset programs that work just fine to start with and also has advanced features. I fall into the group that go ahead and buy the best as there has been so many times I end up going back for the better product and in the end spend more money that way. The EX2 is great on Coins and Relics but is not really a gold prospecting machine which is one reason I asked about your primary interests.
My next best buy is the DFX by Whites, then the Quatro, and number three would be a Sovereign and for a get your foot in the door it is the Advantage. Fisher makes some great detectors and Whites has a very nice line of machines other than the DFX. However, I would suggest the Explorer if you will go the extra money and think you are really going to get into the hobby.

Why didnt you just tell him to get lost. Why didnt you just tell him to go to Home Depot and get a large magnet and quit bothering you. Maybe he wanted to know about a make and model METAL detector. Your answer was no answer it was a question.

This is as clear as I know how to say it plus listing several in order of my prefereces. However, why don't you make a suggestions as to the ones you like instead of being critical of my suggestions. I guess he has looked at the farious manufactures and now wants to know what we on the forum think.

If price is an issue you cain't go wrong with
a sovereign for ease of use and its good for relics. The explorer is the best
ever made but it takes time to learn it well and it
aint cheap but worth every dollar.
