First metal detector, first week.

I just got my first metal detector a week ago. It is a Bounty Hunter, Quick Silver. In one weeks time a few hours a day I have accumulated $3.27. Two of the coins are wheat pennies. 1945 and 1946. Also a cheep ring that has naughty engraved twice on it. I'm loving this machine. However I think there may be something wrong with it. Chatters erratically even with new battery no interference and weak signals (will beep with initial pass and not the return pass.). Battery indicator has never come on and it turns on by it self.

randsdoyle,
First try putting in a fresh new set of alkaline batteries and see if that fixes the problem. It could be that you got a bad set of batteries. Make sure that they are alkaline batteries too. According to First Texas lead acid batteries won't work well in most of the Bounty Hunter models. If the problem persists, call First Texas. Their service department is second to none. HH.
