This will be my first detector and it will arrive in mail thursday to long island where i live. read manual couple times and some post. i think i have an understanding of ground balance , but all in all i don't know squat.. any advice would be great for a person diving in this hobby with the tejon

You picked well for your first detector. Throw some targets (dimes, nickels, pull tabs, screw caps, can slaw, quarters, etc,) out on the ground, start swinging and trying different settings. Doing that works well for me.

yeah i couldn't picture myself looking at a screen to tell me what it is and trusting it. plus the depth sold me .it was either tejon or vaquero in my choices

OK The Tejon is a great machine for sure I owned one and also the vaquero after using both I have found the Vaquero a lot easier to ground balance . with that being said I like the Dual Disc on the Tejon for coin hunting with that be said the key word was Owned I found it to be too close to the Vaquero for my usage so traded it . Not because it was a bad detector but just like the Vaquero better . Now I am no expert by no means , but for a first time user it might be a tad over welming so be patient, depends on your style of hunting and what your primary hunting is , come on Guys chime in here and be honest with him ""A GOOD Choice ""can be Decieving so not trying to start a conflict just want him to understand that the Tejon has its Place like others. Matter of fact I used it today with a 5.75 widescan coil and had a very hard time setting the Ground balance even though I did dig a buffalo nichol at 5 inches using this coil it was a noisey coil even with sens turned to about 6 and no the coil connector was not loose put the stock coil back on and seemed to calm down with a slight threshold hum and slight neg setting MInd you just traded a Shadow X2 for it because I always wanted to try a Tejon . well tried it and even though it hits an iron Target at well over 10 inches it was not for me , The Vaquero will do the same Supertuned except in a trashy area which neither one is good. Like I stated I am by no means an expert and only stating my opinion which we all know everyone has one So I will stand back and wait for the tongue lashing I am about to recieve after Trading a Tesoro Tejon for an AT Pro HH

i understand and have read a lot about the learning curve on the tejon . i am expecting it too be somewhat noisy . ground balancing will take practice and being my first detecter i have a lot of excitement and ready to take the time to figure it out. i understand though about the vaquero being easier but i figured long island soil wasn't to harsh so i went for it.

Not saying you made a bad choice because The Tejon is a great machine and I hope it finds you many silver coins as well as any treasure . Just post pics of your finds Good luck and HH it was just not for me and could be the perfect detector for you hope to keep in touch and welcome to a great Hobby by the way

Just trust the machine you will have one the best machines Tesoro makes. Now for ground balancing it is really not a big deal, but I must admit I had some problems and then I got back in manual and I noticed that it said something like listen as the coil is going down, that is key I was doing the pumping and was kind listening to the sound after I stopped. So as the coil goes down listen for an increase or decrease in sound, piece of cake.

Give it some time and I have no doubt it will just about do anything you ask it to do.

Please if you have questions start posting, I am sure you will get answers.

Good luck,

Ron in WV

i think it a slow all metal pinpoint from disc, or something like that, narrowing the reading of the coil .... umm i don't know

Go to you-tube and type in ground balancing, great video by 53 Silver. Happy Hunting.

Mike does a super job explaining things. All of his Tesoro videos are top notch and well worth watching.

It came in earlier today!! assembled and taken outside where i was able to ground balance within a min or 2. a little jumpy on all metal but not too bad.. just did some air test with coins silver and gold and works awesome so far. average depth is about 8-12 inches right now except on a bigger silver babys bracelet which was really deep( wasn't measuring)sensitivity at 8 ,but wanted to make sure it was reading good and didn't have a lemon. ground balance was surprisingly not as bad as expected or as bad as some other people wrote about it on reviews or forums , it was my first time i ever turned on a metal detector. watching 53 silver vids and few other let me know what to listen for.. once i am "AT ONE" with this detector and master i am confident it will bring me good fortune.just testing the discrimination to see what and where the metals "disc" out .thanks for the vid and if any advice for things to try or watch it will be much appreciated. glad i jumped in this hobby and didn't buy a piece of crap. :beers:
