Went to my favorite old park this morning and decided to try a new area near the spot where I found a few silvers recently. I wasn't finding much clad, but found a few wheats, then went to a hilltop spot where there were two old black walnut trees. The trees are at least 100 years old. Lot of walnuts on the ground were giving me a little trouble swinging. I found a few memorials which were surprisingly deep, maybe 5-6 inches. Then I got a signal similar to one of those deep memorials, but down in the 8 or 9 inch range. I thought at that depth it should be something good, and once I dug down about nine inches, saw a big green disc. Rubbed it a little and saw the wreath and the "one cent", and knew what I had. Flipped it over and could see a right facing Liberty, so I knew it was an old one. Put it away until I got home.
Using a loupe, I can read the date as 1800, and it looks like it might be an overdate, the first "0" looks like it has part of a "9" under it. The second "0" is in worse shape, so I can't tell if it might be an overdate. You can't tell from the picture, but it is definitely an 1800. The obverse is flaking a bit, so I don't think I'll do anything else to it. I brushed it a little with a dry soft paint brush.
Wheats found were 1917, 1940, 1949. The Strohs screw cap is a first also, I usually get Colt 45.
