first indian head plus a chinese coin

.224 magnum

New member
I was hunting an old house yard today on my wifes side of the family. I got in about two hours before dark. Found a 1904 indian head in real good shape 5 inches deep. Signal was bouncy between 50's to 70's. I was so glad to find one so soon, not even had my new detector a month yet. Outside the ground it reads a solid 57 every pass. I also found what appears to be a Chinese coin. It's about the size of an American half dollar. It has a square hole in the center. With chinese symbols at each of the four sides of the box. On the reverse only two symbols at two sides of the box. It was also about 5 or 6 uinches deep. never seen anything like it before. Looked online at some chinese coins and it looks like some of those. Anyone have any ideas about this? I will try to post some pics when I get a wire for my camera to hook to computer.

Great job on the finds...
Firsts are always the best...

Great does look like those on the link. I'll try to match it up. Can't figure why i'd find one in a yard here unless a veteran brought it home.

Great find! Congratulations on your Indian Head cent. As for the Chinese coin..........I've come across them in yards also. Probably from service men. They're a nice find too. HH, Nancy

Congrat's on the indian. I have picked up a few of those chinese coins before in C.W. camps. They are older than you think, but they are usually only worth about five bucks. Great finds and H.H.

Funny,

I found one while hunting yesterday and also went to that same site to find an exact match. I could not find it exactly but the site is under construction and there are more types not yet posted. I almost threw it out thinking it was a piece of trash. Depending on the design they are worth between $3 to whatever. Marty

[size=large]i've read on some of these forums that the real old coins were carried as a good luck piece by people or families. i quess it's a tradition.
