I dug this yesterday and it's my first Indian Head and first coin from the 1800's! Im pretty new to metal detecting so it was pretty exciting finding this. I know it's in bad shape and I still have some cleaning to do. The date is kinda hard to see but it's from 1882.

Many of them don't come out of the ground looking very good, but they sure are fun to find. Nice first find. HH jim tn

 Congratulations on your first Indian Head penny and breaking into the 1800's. It took me 4 years to find my first one. The one I found would have been in good shape if I hadn't scratched it while digging it out. Thought it was a zinc :detecting:. Now that you've broken the ice I'm sure you'll find your next one soon. WTG!

Mike,There's many more where that one come from keep searching around the same area.Good find you broke the sound barrier the next one will be easier to find.Keep in mind deep zincs are probably Indian Heads.
