First impressions of new xterra 705!

Took my new 705 I got from Big Boy Hobbies out for a 4 hour test drive this morning. I am very impressed with its performance! One of the local Tot lots in town has a very mineralized sand base. My fixed G.B. cibola has always struggled with falsing and getting any depth in this playground. With the 9 inch concentric stock coil, the 705 balanced at 10. I put it in auto track and started hunting. first target I got was a quarter at 8 inches, Below the sand, and about 2 inches in the hard packed dirt! next target was a nickle at 6 inches! Again in the dirt base layer! The quarter was at the base of a slide and the nickle under a swing! I must have hit those spots at least 10 times before with my other detector without a peep! The second tot lot I hit produced 52 coins! This 705 is a dime hog! No mistaking a dime! Found 13 Dimes, 5 quarters, 2 nickles, 32 pennies, and 3 pieces of kids jewelry. Very good tone and ID stability in this park. Tried to hit a really trashy park used for festivals and the 705 struggled with accurate ID numbers and tones with the multiple targets under the coil at once. It Did manage 2 dimes and a penny. I ordered the 6 inch dd 18kHz coil Thursday so I'm going to try again as soon as It gets here. I think that will help with target separation and better ID stability. all in all, I am so far, very happy with my 705. With more time behind the wheel, I think its gonna be tough to beat! Great machine So far!

I have the same problem on salt water beaches in dry sand or damp sand. I think it's because of the millions of pieces of foil. I also ordered the 6" DD coil. My Garrett PI isn't much better in the wet or dry sand, but in deep water it's better.

Congrats on the recoveries. With a ground phase reading of 10 (highly mineralized) when using the 9-inch concentric, you should see a big improvement in detector stability with the DD coil. And as you speculated, the target separation will greatly improve with the smaller coil, as well. HH Randy

Sounds like you and the 705 are getting along good.

Got the new 6 inch dd high freq. coil. Took it out for a 2 hr hunt in the very trashy park I tried with the 9 inch coil. what a difference! Excellent separation, much more stable tones ! Pulled 27 more coins(6 dimes, 21 pennies) from amongst the pull tabs and foil! This coil is a must have! Really liking this 705!

Yeah that little coil is a killer on trashy sites.

I used the hf dd could on the salt water beach and highly mineralized sand on some islands in the middle of the columbia river and never had issues. I think you want to run hf on the beaches and highly mineralized areas. I know I ran the umbrella with any sand and water combo. Dry sand is ok for whatever.

I also run around 20 sensitivity. I normally only run 25 in the parks so not much lower.

Hello all. Just got my 705 a week ago. Getting the hang of it. It's not as tough as I thought it would be. Thanks to all the videos on you tube and the advice from you guys here gave me a running start. My first find was a dime, but hey, it was a find. Since then I have found about 40 coins (all clad), and I'm getting used to different tones pretty quickly. My advice to anyone thinking about getting this machine is watch as many videos as you can on you tube and see what guys are doing and do the same.

Just got my 6" DDHF COIL. Will post my finds from today. found 15 more coins were I hunt all the time at the lake were I live.

I would highly reccomend running your 705 in all metal on 99 tones. It feels weird at first because it is so noisy, but trust me you will penetrate deeper and you can hear if you are getting good tones or bad. Also never just dig the tones that are obvious good targets. Most of the wheat pennies I dig with my 705 are iffy signals that have a tendency to bounce into the neg numbers and back to a posative number for pennies. If you have a target and you get all neg tid then chances are it is just junk, but if the target bounces from a good tid to a neg tid and back and forth, then that is usually telling you that 1. the good target is laying close to a nail or foil or some other piece of trash. or 2. The good target is deep and is at the detectors edge of capability to accurately id the target. When I found targets under these two senarios, I started finding alot more good targets and older ones too boot. I found a 1905 V nickel laying right next to a nail within an inch or two. I stuck with it, found the nail, rechecked the hole and found the nickel. next to it. The detector is telling you it has two targets under the coil. Try it and let me know of your results.
