First Impression of the T2

WOW!!! (Note, this message is from a few days ago but the post was lost due to the board being down. Since then I have played with the unit more and verified much what I thought to be true.)

My detector arrived here (Germany) from America just yesterday. Had to
go to customs to pick it up, but they were more curious about it than
anything else. Upon assembling it I realized that it was a quality built
machine and made in America no less. The last of a dying breed. The
unit "snapped" together nicely and the rods fit snug and in place, no
wobble at all. The unit seemed relatively light (compared to my Nautilus
IIB - Only been detecting for one out of the last two years and only on
that unit). The balance is perfect and seems helped by the forearm "cup"
that not only allows you to rest your forearm on it but also sort of
wraps around your forearm (if you want, as you can bend it) which aids
in swinging the unit with control. I imagine it will hence decrease
fatigue. Also, it can be moved to suit your arm length.

I didn't take it outside but I laid some newer Euro coins and older
German Pfennigs on the floor just to test the unit out. Didn't have a
problem being indoors like I do with my Nauty and it worked at default
sensitivity OK. I was really pleasantly surprised with the information
rich audio. This is saying allot coming from a Nauty user as that unit
gives allot of information with it's modulated all metal sound. But this
unit has the tones, something new for me and something I see as maybe
being my "modulated" aid and more. I put the coins in various
configurations but the one that amused me was laying them out in
ascending order by size. I heard their size (OK, all at the same
"depth" but you get my point). It was just very very precise and
consistent. The ID jumped a bit on some of the coins (rusted ones, which
makes sense) but I'll have to test it outside with zero interference to
really know. I briefly played with the different modes and was
impressed. Something that took some getting used to is how fast the unit
is. It is DAMN fast! I mean, it hears everything at a very fast sweep
speed. Speaking of which, when I slowed the sweep speed down to a crawl
the ID's changed and changed allot, so sweep speed with this is very
important, unlike my Nauty. Sooo much information on that screen. You
have the iron meter, the three grades (strength) of signal icons above
the symbols (coins, trash, etc.), ID, etc. It is a bit overwhelming but
I can just remember how overwhelmed I was with my Nauty as a first
detector. Sort of like learning to surf on a short-board. I've had
enough punishment though and was sort of attracted to this unit because
of the combination of ease and power.

The different modes coupled with the independence of ID and audio makes
this unit VERY VERY powerful. This is obvious without "knowing" the unit
or taking it outside. When someone gets time under their belt with this,
it just seems very clear to me to be a very powerful unit in the right
hands. I can for see checking the targets in a variety of ways (modes, ID
vs. Audio, all metal, etc.). I can't comment on the accuracy of the ID
or the unit, but that has been stated here on many many posts. Coming
from a Nautilus IIB, as GREAT as that unit is, this detector gives me
more... I feel like a kid in a Candy store. What a great "Toy" to play
with. Oh, the pinpointing seemed right on, but barely played with it.

Let me comment on the lack of memory in regards to the settings. This is
from using it for 30 minutes, OK. NOT AN ISSUE. The speed at which you
can change your settings is just plain fast, like the unit is. Having to
spend a few seconds at startup will also keep one honest and not get
lackadaisical with settings. I read the manual a couple of times prior
to receiving the unit and read most of the posts here, so it's good to
put a picture with a face. This unit feels like a quality unit. I will
post some more information as I use it.

The ID's with German coins are a bit all over the place, so it will take
me some time to understand where things fall. The coins here are not all
built so nice, many rust and the T2 saw many of those as iron. I don't
really care about that, it was fun to find them with my Nauty though. I
see me being more efficient with this machine, regarding those coins
anyway. Need to test some trash and than I'll know.

So, there are my first impressions, now I just need to put some time
into the unit.

Thank you T2, Teknetics, First Texas, Texas Instruments or whatever your
name is,
