First impression of 5 x 8 DD on the AT-Pro

Sailorman

Just tried the 5x8 DD coil on the AT-Pro today and took it to a spot I know that is a parking lot at a bar. Bottle cap, pull tab and can slaw hell. That little coil can sift through trash like a dream! Go slow and hunt carefully and it pulled the clad and copper out of the soup that made me give up with the big coil. They've each got their place for sure!

Next I hit the chips in a totlot I worked over last week with the 4.5" super sniper just to see what happened. You can't work up anywhere near as close to the metal posts (it started sounding off about a foot away) but I did hit some clad that was in the dirt under the chips and deep. Like 6" and hitting it strong in Pro mode. Then worked a sidewalk strip by the park and made some more hits in the 4" the 6" range all clad. This area gets hammered pretty hard by other folks so i figured I did OK. In pro mode I'm not even getting faint, deep tones yet at those depths. I think this little coil is pretty deep for it's size but for working a totlot I don't think it will replace the super sniper for hitting the shallow coins around the equipment.

Now I have trashed shoulder joints and the machine is a bit lighter with this coil. You also need
to slow your swing and let it do it's job. I also slowed my moves pinpointing or I could loose the peak signal, on small targets it's really quick but it points dead on. I also noticed a strong double signal like a ring or old ring type pull tab on coins less than 1". The ID would come up right though.

So tomorrow I will either be at the beach or maybe a wooded site and we'll keep putting the new coil through it's paces. So far I'm very impressed with how it's working and glad I got it!

Good to C your happy with the cats meow of AT coils. I have the stock coil on my pro and I love what it does for me around old houses, but I got that itchin for the 5x8 just to C for myself. So thanks for the report and good luck:thumbup:

That's a good report Sailorman,I will be interested how it goes in the woods,I was going to get the gold to keep the pro company but they cant handle the mineralisation here in Aus so might just get the 5x8 and run with that, the 4' sniper is a great little coil alright and hits hard on little nuggets, the coil cover for them is crap and breaks with the slightest knock on rocks in cold weather, the plastic composite is to hard and brittle in the cold so I'm going to make my own,If any one else has this problem just run some electrical tape around the coil and that will absorb the knocks, keep up the good reports:cheers:

You can also coat it in Plastidip http://www.plastidip.com/ or bedliner coating http://www.duplicolor.com/products/truckBedCoating/

What a great idea Canuck. Thanks. That's very smart.
