Hello,
Well I took the XS out to an old park today. This park, like most old parks, is full of trash, but I read the manual and the book so I had a basic idea about how to use the machine.
When I first fired it up, I could not see the screen! I adjusted the contrast, moved to different locations, but nothing worked. Nothing that is until I took my sunglasses off!
I used the Smartfind, cranked up the sensitiviy a little, used the Fast setting. All I remembered from my reading is that coins tend to show in the upper right of the screen. I ended up finding a Wheat penny, a new dime, a couple of new pennies, and a brass pin that appears to be very old. But, I spent all day watching the crosshairs move all over the screen while listing to constant varying tones. I imagine that there could be good finds indicated somewhere other than the upper right quadrant, but I had nothing to reference whether to dig or not. I did do some air testing on jewelery, but the locations would vary accross the screen, so I really wasn't sure what to dig. I did notice that certain screwcaps or pull tabs would indicate in certain positions so I didn't dig those areas after I figured that out. It is going to take me some time to figure out just what to dig, but it was a good first day.

Get a good selection of coins and air test them to get the sounds. Most of us go almost exclusively by the sounds. They dont lie the screen will. The screen will lock onto the strongest traget and not reset until you get a threshold back so you may have a good target and not be able to see it on screen. The screen is just for reference it is not good to spend to much time on it. It just slows you down and you miss things. If you got the 8" coil with the machine use it for awhile.

I took my new XT out this weekend and mirror everything you just said. We need to learn the sounds. I think I may have had my sensitivity too high and seemed to get a lot of misc. warbles and chirps that did not repeat. It was a trashy area. I really am looking forward to learning this machine though. Traded in a GTI2000 and Tigershark for it.

Is the sound of a Silver Coins Cache the same as one Single Silver Coin of the same type of the Cache Coins???
