First hunt with the Golden Sabre II

Spent about 5 hours out with it on the first hunt and retrieved it all like I always do with a new unit for the first few hunts. All turf hunting using the Cleansweep coil as most of my spots are modern parks and sports fields. Tried many different settings but finally settled on the disc set at the minimum setting (has auto iron rejection), notch turned off and the notch control dial set at 3.

At that setting I could tell foil and most tabs apart from other conductors. Since its a analog machine the audio is pretty rich. My wife tossed my last tab collection so I have a new one now ::clsoedeyes:

Probably after the 2nd hour I was able to call every target as I dug it. Foil as foil, tab as tab, nickel as nickle, high coins as high coins. Some of the junk fooled me in the foil range.

Still haven't found the right tab for setting the notch right for the gold target id.

Net for my first hunt was $9.44 and a new tab collection.

Been out with it a few more times since this hunt. If I keep it I'll have to put a gb mod on it as most of the sports fields are too hot for it. The fill dirt is just too shallow. In the parks where the fill is at least 5 to 6" deep it hunts ok but when the fill dirt gets around 3" the underlying ground kills the gb setting.

Bottom line: I'm not going to keep the Golden Sabre II. My Golden uMax will continue to serve me needs for that type of hunting.

Looks like a pretty sensitive unit.

I had one once and liked it, but found I didnt like the old Tesoro underslung Monolithic housing anymore.
I started out with one of those models, a Silver Sabre II, and thought I would enjoy the nostlagia trip. I didn't... it wasn't long before I sold the GS II.

But it looks like you worked it out real well and are talking with your new detector well.

I have a problem though... I'm sure I saw you selling a GS II on the TD this morning??? Am I having a brain fart???

Nope.....you ain't having a brain fart. Its for sale.
