Took my wifes F5 out for it's maiden voyage.I was super impressed with it.I modified some of Rick Hillis newbie setttings.Gain 70,threshold -9,notched out iron, foil, tabs and $.50.Ground balanced with phase and took off hunting.I started at a Little League field close to the house.I saw a guy hunting it a week ago.I pulled quarters and dimes within inches of his plugs.Nothing deep here.I did dig at least 3 coins the were straight up and down on edge.Deepest coin at this spot was a 7 inch deep quarter.I next went to a high school.I couldn't get in to the football field, sports field areas as they were padlocked .I hunted a strip of grass between the building and the parking lot on the side of the building,Same settings.Coins started coming up.I ended up with a total of $7.77 in clad. The F5 pinpoints great.I dug almost no trash.Neither of these places are anywhere close to old enough to have old coins. This was in nasty Virginia red, mineralized clay.I did have one cardiac moment.I got a quarter signal,80,when I removed the plug and broke off the bottom of the plug the was the glint of gold!! It ended up being a wristwatch body, gold in color. My wife doesn't have a lot of patience when hunting, she wants to "dig the money" and not a lot of trash. That's why I set it up like I did. This detector really locks on coins.Bill

Hi Bill,

Those are good settings for high trash spots. I've used the same ones for my worst steel bottle cap and tab site and had the same results.

Your wife sounds like mine. She only wants the money and wants it NOW  If she starts digging trash she is ready to give up and go shopping

Great Hunt!

the F5 is an incredable machine-some folks don't like it -I'm continually impressed with its performance each time I use it

My words exactly. A real coin magnet. Congrats, ya edged me by a little today. It sure is one nice detector and very lightweight:))
