first hunt with the cz70

took the new cz70 out today and hunted a small town park for a couple hours. no great finds but i was more interested in getting to know the machine first. the park was littered with new coins and after awhile i just ignored them and concentrated on deeper targets. two deep targets turned out to be old wheaties, 1910 and 1916 at over 8 inches deep. i was almost ready to give up on both coins before i finally found them. this machine is amazing..... the old deep wheaties gave a strong signal and i don't doubt for a minute it would have gave a good signal on them another 2 or 3 inches deeper. there a still a few things i'm not too sure about on the cz, like the star with the $ sign in it. is this where old coins will read or what? the signals i had that read in that range were old square tabs. can someone explain this icon a little better to me than what the manual tells about the 4th tone? and i did have a few deep rusty nails fool me. i'm sure after spending some time with the detector i will be much more confident digging signals than i was today. for the first time out with it i thought i did pretty good. i thought all i had read about the depth of these machines was all hype, but i'm a believer now after seeing how easily it found those deep old wheaties. i had sensitivity set at 6 and notched out iron and round pulltabs and there was still plenty of horsepower to spare. any tips or tricks for the cz70 would be very much appreciated......thanks.........roger

When the CZ7A pro was upgraded to the CZ70 pro this segment was renamed relic given another tone and previously was square tab so its understandable you found square tabs. Real old indian head pennies, half dimes, 3 cent pieces, gold coins, large 10 kt gold rings, tokens, lower range sterling silver will come in this segment and extra tone alerts you without looking at meter.. Seems like you did well for first time and after a while you will learn to avoid those nasty deep rusted nails.. I see a 10 inch silver dime in your future so don't give up on a signal if it crosses from several directions and the pinpoint doesn't seem to move when you are digging as these are ways to cut down on the digging of deep nails..

thanks for the information on the 4th tone dan. it makes more sense to me now. sounds like i will be digging more square tabs but have a chance at finding some nice older coins along the way. in my part of illinois the ground is rich black dirt and fairly low minerals so i think 10" coins are a real possibility. i was very impressed with the detectors depth so far, but man, those deep coins are much harder to retrieve. i think a good pinpointer would be helpful with this detector. i never thought i needed one with my beep and dig machines because the coins were either in the plug or a inch or so in the bottom of the hole..........thanks ..........roger

Indeed a silver dime at 10 inches is certainly possible..Remember my first one and surprised me and about 10 foot down the path got the same low signal and got my second one so its all a matter of time in the field and knowing what the extremely deep coins sounds like..As far as pinpointers not a fan for general hunting but for deep coins easy to spot one just off to the side of the hole or to go that last inch when you say no way.....
