First hunt with the CZ21 - Silver and Gold

I took the CZ21 out for the first time today. I brought my Excal with me because I wasn't sure if I wanted to try to learn the new machine in a spot where gold seems to turn up every time I go there, but I went ahead and took the plunge. I ground balanced, set the Sensitvity to 10 (no chirping) and away I went. It took a few minutes to get used the the concentric coil as I am more used to the narraw strip of detection that comes with a DD coil like on my Excal II, but it came pretty easily. This spot has lots of iron so I set my Dics to 0 so I could hear where the iron was and work around it. I soon learned that I was getting some iron falsing so I dropped the Sensitivity down to 7 and things got a lot smoother. I really liked the overload feature. It kept me from digging several buried pop cans and I'm really glad I went with the 8-inch coil because it as easy to work around trash and iron. It was really helpful to not have the Excal iron null and resulting recovery delay in this iron-infested spot. Very nice machine!

Best finds where a really old silver ring with a gemstone and a 14K white gold ring weighing in at 4.07 grams.

Glad to hear you are hunting in 0 discrim mode. Only way to learn a CZ. Plus, that 8 inch coil is a killer coil....best one for a CZ in my opinion.

Well I for one dig ALL the bell tones. Not only have large gold rings been bell tones but BOTH my pistols, my bomb, a lot of old toys, watches, Zippo lighters, lots of boat anchors and a lot of other great items were bell tones. You might want to rethink passing them up. Sure I dig my share of cans BUT all the other neat things have been worth it.

Congrats on the gold and silver. I am glad I have the 10" coils but to each their own.

I also dig bell tones if you get a surface coin they even hit on bell tone sometimes at least on my machine. Not to mention it is fun digging zippo lighters as scuba said along with pocket knives and other cool stuff. WTG on the gold and silver!!!

Nice find! Am I the only one that, when upon seeing your thread title, started singing "Silver and Gold" by Burl Ives? I believe it was on the "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" movie many years ago.

About bell tones: I've been skipping them all, but my hunting buddy digs them and two weeks ago a watched him pull up two hand guns the same day. A .38 semiand a .22 911 style handgun.

I'm digging bell tones now. Lot's of interesting stuff!
