First hunt with my new SEF 10x12 Butterfly Coil

I got my SEF 10x12 coil yesterday and put it on the Vaquero today. After I spent the morning making a batch of beer (A porter to celebrate Duke's great football season though they lost last night :( , I took the V with the new coil out to my usually soccer field/camp retreat area. My first impressions are that the coil deeper than the stock coil as I found some fairly deep quarters and pennys, and especially a lot of pull tabs. (See pix). I also did find $0.71 in clad, a Roy Smeck vintage guitar pick, junk metal, a lipstick holder, an earring (or fishing spinner), and a silver and turquoise ring. This was a 1.5 hour hunt. Thus, my first impressions are pretty good for depth, I do not know why I found so many pull tabs--maybe my DISC was too low, though I found no nickels. I found it a little more difficult to pinpoint, possibly because the coil is bigger. I have hunted this area a lot, but I am amazed that I still find stuff.

Hombre, It looks like you had a great day. For a relic hunter like me your finds are #1. I hope that no matter how good they get, i hope for you they only get better.

Thanks. Decided to go with that coil because of the advice on this forum and and I do not usually hunt high trash sites as the population in the area is not very dense, and least physically! I need to get back to Bentonville and try the coil on the areas I can hunt near the battlefield. I still have not gotten my first true Civil War relic. Have a happy new year.

Good job with the new coil. I've been thinking about a larger coil for my Cibola, just wish I could find one that was concentric and not a DD as my soil isn't that bad.

Hi Hombre,

I just joined this forum. I also have the same SEF 10x12 Butterfly coil. I am finding it difficult Pinpointing a target. It is not like using my DD coil on my Garrett AT Pro. I am using the coil on a Minelab 1000. I was wondering if you have made any progress since you started with the coil with Pinpointing? I find that it finds targets deep. It also is very sensitive as I find lots of small fish hooks with it. That means it should be good on gold chains. I have even found small pieces of thin wire which I find amazing.

Homebre that's some neat stuff you found.

I have used it again once again and found a lot of pull tabs and zincolns. I then switched to more DISC and found a silver quarter. I was going to use it again but the weather has been bad. It looks like this weekend will be very wet until Sunday. I did not seem to have trouble pinpointing as I used crossing stokes from different directions. Hope that helps,
