First hunt with impact

Got my impact today. Hunted a small yard I hunted hard with etrac and Deus. Found these in an hour or so. (Can't upload a pic for some damn reason. To big or something. 58 Rosey, 47 wheatie and a 1917 worn Merc)Not deep. 4 to 6 inches. You think I would be happy from a hunted out yard but my first impression of impact is a little troubled. (I am always happy to find silver

That seemed to cut my post short. My point is the impact is very noisy. Reminds me of an f75 Ltd. I know I have a lot to learn but if I can't quiet it down I won't have it long. Any tips would be appreciated.

You know how a new detector can be. I'mnot a pro but I'm not a rookie either. Shouldn't be too hard to turn on a detector and run it reasonably quiet. I guess only time will tell. I'm like that fellow in search of the eternal buzz. I'm looking for the perfect detector.

What program where you using? I like di3 around the iron with sensitivity around 85 and iron volume at 1 or 2 so iron isn't loud but I know where it is. I know the deep program is noisy but I use it to double check targets at fringe depth as it is very deep. After work today I got a tombac button, some large caliber musket balls and a buckle in pretty heavy iron along with some modern bullets and trash.

Settings please.
Freq,,gain, disc level, coil size, mode.

Sorry, di3. 14 khz.Gain 70 was very noisy. I switched to 20 khz. I was able to run 90 on gain then. That quieted it down a little. I didn't make any other changes. My deus has no interference there. I know they are different machines but Lord is it noisy.

Well,,first off your Deus don't run at 14khz.

Just were were you,,,what kind of environment???

You might go to another site,,and 20khz may be noisy and 14khz quiet.

You can't throw a detector capable of using different freqs under the bus based on one hunt in one site.
Would be silly.

Did you try to change channels while in 14khz to see if the detector would quieten down?

I have few if any problems with 14khz being noisy,,,and I run at gain 99 most of the time,,low disc too.

And just maybe you were fortunate,,using the 20kh like you did,,may have been the reason for sneaking out some finds behind Deus and the other detector.

Go to some more sites,,and hunt,,trying the different freqs,,and try to mitigate emi if its present by changing channels..

Nice finds btw.

Sorry I meant at that site. Usually run deus in 12 or 18 khz. I don't want to throw it under the proverbial bus yet but was a little disappointed with the noise as having no emi at that location. I will try some of what you said. Good advice. Thanks.

Hello there...it should not be that noisy at 70 Gain.
I am wondering if there is an issue with your device.
Can you do me a favor and email me at dilek@noktadetectors.com?

For all you f75 users I didn't mean to put down the machine. I've owned one. They are very good detector but can be noisy. It's always a trade off with different detectors. Also not condemning the impact. Was just my first impression. I will post more as I learn the nokta.

I am an experienced with dealing with EMI. The first time with the small coil was noiseless, ran perfect. My second hunt(in the woods about 300 feet from a highway, with the standard coil I got a ton of chatter. My third hunt was in two different areas both in the middle of the city. It started out fine but when i got close to some power lines, it went nuts. I tried different frequencies, frequency shifts, and lowering the gain(which I was told is an audio gain so it should matter). But being in the VLX modes seemed to quiet down the chatter. My gain was high, in the 90's. IMO, I think the shielding on the standard coil may be to blame

Give it time there is a lot to understand and the sounds are different and lots of programs to play with and tweak...Try all metal and give that a spin and see what you missed in the ground

It's usually either ground noise, or EMI, keep the sensitivity down until you figure out the root cause.

Turn your iron audio down to 1 or 2, that will help if it's iron or ground related.

If it's EMI change frequencies, and freq shift within frequencies. Try the smaller coil if available (or another coil to make sure the coil isn't the cause).

We saw a report of a constant buzz/threshold hum on a new unit, but I believe that was resolved reloading the Impact.

Good luck, I do suspect that for those that it works out for, it's going to be a solid detector, but it probably won't be for everyone.

hh,
Cal

Thanks to everyone for the advice. And to Dilek from nokta. The first location I took it to never had any emi with any detectors. That scared me a little. Took it out to today and it ran much better. No silver but it worked very well. Thanks for the help.
