Just got the E-trac yesterday and took it out for the first time today. I went to a couple of heavily hunted, trashy parks. I put the detector in "High Trash" mode with "Recovery Deep" on and 4 tones. I liked the default "Normal" pinpoint mode. It really helped narrow down exactly where I needed to dig when I had a good signal beside ones with a lower tone. Below are the coins I found. The oldest coin is a 1950d wheatie. Unfortunately, I didn't find any silver. Man, I kept looking for that high flutey signal. I got fooled a few times by screwcaps. Most of them had a slightly lower tone. One thing I learned is to rely on the tones more than the screen or the numbers. I also learned to slow down when I heard that high flutey signal among other tones while sweeping the coil. I tried to get the good signal to repeat. Many times it would not, or it would null on the backswing or give a lower tone. In other words, it was not repeatable. Some sounded good but were clipped off at the end. I dug them anyway and they were all junk. Next time out I'm going to try hard to find silver. Does anybody have better settings for hunting trashy parks - or are my settings good? Tips? Let me say that I really enjoyed using this detector. I think it will serve me well after I figure it out.
Oh, one thing I noticed when air testing in "High Trash" mode is that the detector nulled on a 1971 Eisenhower silver dollar. I think it's because that coin has a high ferrous number. But I'd like to make the E-trac hit on it. How do I get it to accept it? Thanks. Dan
