Well my GTI isn't speaking to me any more. It did utter a few choice words to me as I walked out the door without her but I won't repeat them here!
I headed to a favorite site of mine where I hit silver coins from time to time. Swung the AT-Pro for 3.25 hours in standard mode, all notches active. Just a few thoughts.
The AT-Pro loves metal. All metal! I have never dug so much junk in my life! I have gotten so used to imaging and not digging big targets that I forgot just how much I had been leaving in the ground. In the past 4 years I've probably dug 5 or 6 aluminum cans. At least a dozen today. But with a new machine I expected to. I was going to save the junk for a photo but there was too much. I was changing settings around here and there and finally figured out how to dig just a little less junk. I did, however, stick to digging it all even after I figured out how to eliminate certain targets. I want to figure out where targets indicate on the VDI. Depth was impressive. It will detect nickels a lot deeper than my 2500. I assume that means it will be hot on gold as well. Look at that nickel total. More nickels than dimes and quarters together which has never happened to me on a long hunt. NEVER! Depth for copper and clad coins is about the same as with my 2500 as far as I can tell.
Back to nickels. I dug two Buffaloes in one day which has only happened once before. Again, it is a nickel magnet. Four wheats which is normal for the site. No silver.
It did take me 15 minutes (I'd call that my learning curve) to dig my first coin (a cruddy zinc) then they started flying out of the ground. 95 coins in 3.25 hours is excellent considering how much other stuff I found. I think it will be an excellent relic machine judging from all the interesting finds today. I probably would have never dug the knife with my 2500. The junk ring was a very strong signal and it was pretty deep too. The chains, junk, were also strong signals which is unusual and a promising sign.
I like the DD coil. It pinpoints accurately. I pinpointed to the tip. With the target pinpointed ID and depth indications were consistent and somewhat accurate. I did find copper pennies and clad dimes were giving the same VDI number or within one or two of each other. Nickels were spot on 51 almost every time. Did I mention nickels before? Didn't find many quarters only because I've taken so many out of the ground there.
My only complaint is that the screen is too small and for some reason I have a hard time with all the black and white. Maybe if the coin icons were red (and bigger) they'd stand out more. I guess a second complaint would be having the mode selector on the power switch. I kept changing modes rather than turning it off, and then when I got back to hunting I was in the wrong mode. Why no volume control either? My pinpoint button stuck on once today but this happens with my 2500 too. I don't think it will replace my 2500 as my favorite detector but it is a fantastic machine. I am going to use it for the entire month of April to get to know it better.
First impressions only. Overall I quite like it. I'll have more to say as I use it in the future, I'm sure. Here are the finds:

I forgot to use Uncle Willy's paper towel but I still have it. See?

I am pretty beat. I hope this post is somewhat organized as I am in just a bit of a rush at the moment. Wanted to share some thoughts today. Hopefully, I'll manage a hunt tomorrow too.
