First hunt with 305 - Pinpoint tips??

Norge

New member
Hi - received my 305 on Friday - got in about two hours of hunting at at local park. Seemed to find signals well but had a little trouble pinpointing and was perhaps digging a bit too much soil to recover the finds. Any tips for the standard coil? When you pinpoint where the tone is highest is that approximately in the centre of the circle? Help appreciated.

Anyway I found 36 kroner (approx. USD 7.00) and plenty of caps, ring pulls, cans etc. So overall reasonably happy with the first hunt. Used in all metal, high sensitivity, low threshold.

Cheers

I'm using a 505 and the pinpoint on it is pretty much where the center of the coil is. On my detector it seems to be right on and I'm using the 7.5 standard coil. I think that after you use it a while you will get better at pinpointing. I find it helps to step about 90 degrees to one side or another of the target and swing the detector over the spot again. Seems to pinpoint it better and sometimes that allows you to "see" it from a different angle. Best advice I can give you is to be very familiar with your users manual and when you get the time, read Digger's book which you can find at this link. http://www.minelab.com/treasure-talk/understanding-your-x-terra-ebook Good luck.

A couple of things you can try to make pinpointing easier. You can raise the coil half or a full inch after you have passed over the target in pinpoint at least once. This will shrink (detune) the size of the pinpoint. The other option is to use the 12 o'clock of the inner coil. By dragging the coil towards yourself in pinpoint, the audio will break off at the 12 o'clock position. try it on a coin that you can see so that you can get the hang of it.
