Got out this morning with Tabman, and we started at an older rental which happened to be unsuitable for hunting due to fill gravel being brought in at some point. Dad and his older brother Doug came along as well, and between the four of us there were 3 detectors swinging at once! After less than an hour at the first rental, we packed it up and drove about a mile to one of Gerald's locations and starting finding older and better coins right away.
Totally forgot to bring my control box today since I needed to wash the armband holder from last week's muddy hunt. Because of the this, there was no filming today as I only had the "Deus Lite" setup without the ability to fine tune for the site. I really missed the Reactivity = 3 settings and the "4khz Toggle" today and dug a lot of bottlecaps as a result - but I'm still happy in how the hunt ended up - everyone found something nice - and it sure beats sitting around the house on a day off!
I spotted $100 in 2 $50 bills blowing across the front yard, but it's too bad it was only play money! I ended up finding another "play money" coin, and wanted to get as much time in as possible before the rain arrived. Around the backyard of the second rental is where all of us starting finding better coins, with Gerald getting a lovely Mercury dime and war nickel to start off his silver count for 2015! In almost the same area I got a smallish high toned sound that could have been a copper penny on-edge - I was surprised to see silver in the hole in the form of a nice birthstone ring! It may or may not be a peridot stone, but it is a nice start for the year for me!
I was hunting close to Dad and Doug when I came across the clad Kennedy half - and the look of disdain on Dad's face was priceless! He is known to withhold silver until the end of the hunt, and then spring it upon you as a "HAHA!" moment. I'll never forget when he did this to me with a large 14K ring back in the early 1990s - the look on my face that time was something to remember I'm sure!
We took a lunch around the corner at a BBQ joint, and as we left the restaurant at 12:30 or so it was sprinkling...time to get back at it for as long as possible! Dad and Doug had to leave, so Gerald and I continued at another rental across the street. The rain intensified, and the next thing I knew Gerald was gone!!! Sometimes I may get a little too engrossed in detecting - but I was determined to start the year off with one silver coin - but it wasn't in the cards today.
I left and went back to the same house Dad and I hunted a month ago where the Walker was found in the curb strip, and quickly scored a 1951 Jefferson. A stray Wheat here, a high relief Memorial there, then another Wheat, then a clad dime - I had all the right tones and when I happened upon the clad quarter, I was sure it was a silver target! I called it a day after about an hour of light rain, as my pinpointer was starting to get gummy again.
Until next time!
