First hunt of the year...First find.

Ground finally thawed enough for me to give it a go this morning. Nasty, windy and cold but was nice to get out after three months stuck indoors. Hit the usual old park and saw Park Pirate already working the hills. Only dug two coins in the couple hours I was out but one was a nice 1903 indian head cent that cleaned up real well. Ground still has some frost and very wet and muddy. Hope 2015 turns out to be a good year.

Nice digs Ed. Glad you guys are finally able to get out. I hate being couped up in the house over winter so,I know how good it fealt to finally get out.
Got out alone this morning an managed a 42 Merc , two wheats, old broach and a button.
Post coming soon.

Mark, I used the hydrogen peroxide method. Poured about 1/4 inch of peroxide in a glass dish. Heated in microwave for about 30 seconds. Dropped in the penny, let sit for about 5 minutes and then lightly brushed with a tooth brush. Final cleaning with soap and water and then rubbed with a soft cloth. Some are too corroded to clean especially if covered in that green slime. Luckily we have some good soil here that is kind to the coppers.
