First Hunt Of The New Year...

Sooper Dave

Well-known member
The weather here has been a roller coaster. We got snow and ice with temps in the teens then followed up with 70 degree days and rain. I did manage to get in a nice hunt this Saturday at an old house that is being remodeled. It's a small house built in the late teens and sits on a nice corner lot. The owner granted me permission to search and right away I was digging wheats and soon had a nice Merc that was from a scratchy signal because of the square nail in the same hole. I hunted for a few hours and got a bunch of wheaties along with 5 silver coins. Also dug a few neat tokens like the Cascarets Candy Cathartic flip token. I think the coolest piece is the fob from the Bijou theater in Nashville. This was an African American theater that opened in 1904 and was torn down in 1957 to build the Municipal Auditorium that's there now on 4th Ave. Another piece I dug was the "Naughty Dog" that is a novelty item that you would light a pharaoh serpent firework and put the dog on top of that. The smoke and ash would come out a hole in the backside for a big laugh. You never know what you will find. HH David

Congrats on the awesome finds. I've always found that the smaller yards are some of the most productive ones. I dug that very same early 1900's Cascaret's Laxative Candy token last year as well here in TN. I thought I had a large cent when I popped it out of the ground. The dog figurine is a keeper. Very cool. GL & HH

Dog is the prize.

Nice Digs Sooper! Great variety.
I really like that theater fob/tag and the fact you can tie it to a location.
Years ago I dug something similar and assumed it came from a hotel across the street from
the park I was at but couldn't be completely sure.

Hey Dave,

Great way to start the new year!

Happy digging 2017

Thanks Emmett! I've seen dates range on these from the early 1900's to the 1950's

I agree I love history especially local history. This fob has Nashville on the back so that makes it 100% from that old theater. There are many Bijou theaters as it was a chain.

Really nice finds. The coat check/fob is beyond cool! Probably worth more than you'd think as well.

Congrats on the nice digs!
