With temperatures for-casted in the mid 50s we just had to get out for are first hunt of 2014.
We knew the ground would be frozen in most spots so, we hit a few places we knew where not critical in the ways we would have to dig.
In most spots it was like chiseling through concrete to get to a target and many just had to be passed by due to being solidly frozen.
My buddy got one good signal he was able to retrieve and his first coin of 2014 turned out to be a silver Washington (64).
I did not get any fantastic hits so I was digging a lot of bouncy and iffy signals.
I was able to get two buttons (one flatty and one state seal button), 1949 Zoological Society Token, a lil ring and a wheat.
Nothing special for my first hunt of 14 but, I worked my butt to get these items out of the ground., It was a blast as usual even if it was hard digging today.
One yard place we hunted was a private residence and while I was hunting I looked and noticed my buddy talking to the owner and they where looking at something.
He then signaled for me to come over and the owner was showing him a box of oddities. He said you guys like old stuff you guys can have the box full.
As we where looking it appeared many of the emblems appeared to be from sweepers and thought hmm interesting but, there where also old padlocks in the box and that got are blood flowing. I mean what detectorist doesn't like old padlocks.
We thanked the owner and we said we where going to be leaving shortly and we would probably see him again in the spring. We have hunted his place numerous time before and he could care less when we hunt.
Hopefully this hunt today will curb are cabin fever to hunt until it looks like the ground is softened up enough to dig in comfortably. Time will tell.
Anyways below are the pictures of the quarter my buddy dug, my dug token and button. Then both are finds grouped together with junk) along with a picture of some of the items the gentleman gave us.
Happy Hunting Everyone and pray for Spring!
