First Hunt of 2008 Nets 2 Rings - 1 Platinum/18k and 1 14k

It was a busy holiday season in Bermuda and I wasn't able to set enough time to hunt until today. The weather was foul with rain and overcast, a high of 63F, winds gusting to 30 knots NNW and a sea surface temperature of 69.3F. The winds being from the North meant that the South Shore Beaches would be my best bet but I also knew that my favorite public beach (Horseshoe Bay) had been mauled by the Parks Dept when they pushed a bunch of sand back into the water a week ago. What's a pirate to do though? I really wanted to hunt today and I had the time so off to Horseshoe Bay I went.
Conditions at Horseshoe were good with small waves and not much wind but after an hour I had managed only 2 pull tabs and a beer cap, it was even worse than expected.:thumbdown::thumbdown: It was so bad that as I headed back to my Jeep I resorted to working the dry sand which produced a quarter. Instead of turning up the path to the parking area I decided to give the swimming hole at the end of Horseshoe Bay a whirl. I'm sure glad I did! I spent the next hour pulling clad, bullets, pull tabs and junk jewellery out of the swimming hole but the last 20 minutes of this hunt was Excellent! I got a wierd tone that had some good bits to it so I got to digging and after 2 scoops the tone changed (still there but different) so I checked my scoop and there was a child's 14k ring. KEWL! 1st Gold of 2008!! I dug up the rest of the signal and there was a Heineken bottle cap:ranting: Man I Hate those Suckers! After ten more minutes I was ready to bail out but decided to make one last pass of the swimming hole and picked up a REALLY NICE signal jammed between two rocks. I pushed the rocks out of the way and the tone just sounded better. On the second scoop I hit paydirt, a Platinum and 18k Men's Band; PERFECT!!!:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: I said to myself "Well Hello Stranger" and pocketed my find, then spent another 10 minutes prowling around but there was nothing left; it's a very small swimming hole. So, I headed back home in the jeep with a smile on my face.
I hope this a sign of things to come for 2008.

Cheers,

BDA:cool:

Can't ask for a much better start to 2008!

Wow ! Awesome start! I sure love seeing those pics. The water is absolutely beautiful there! You gotta love life living there.

Nice loot bda, been kinda dry here on gold for awhile but its nice to look at yours:biggrin: Gonna hit it hard this weekend and get started on my 2 gold bars this year.

Excellent finds bda, it's lovely to see such a sweet ring! Hope for one myself this month, HH Nugget.:)

one of my favorite places while we were there!! Thanks.p.s Wife loves the photo's too....you find any watches there yet??? lol..her's is there some where!!

Great looking rings. That was my favorite beach when we were there. I can still see the spot we had on the beach. It really makes me want to go back again, expecially with the freezing weather here in New England. Who knows, maybe we'll go back again later this year. You never know.

My wife and I have been working our rear ends off the last 2 years and haven't taken a vacation (other than to visit family) in the last 13 years, so we're DYING to get away this year and I'm committed to finding some places to go where we can relax, but I can do some detecting when I feel like it.

The cruise out of Boston to Bermuda looks appealing to us, but I'd love to get some firsthand reviews from folks who've taken it!

I know this is OT - if I should move it, let me know - I just thought perhaps it would be ok to ask here.

thanks

I don't think it's OT at all, Cubby. You're looking for info on how best to get to Bermudaful Bermuda so you can detect in the water. That's definitely on topic in my books. If you decide to come to Bermuda I'll hook you up with the do's & don't as well as show you around the island's better detecting spots.

Cheers,
