Weather was beautiful here in Ct on New Year's Day! Sunny and 50ish. Didn't have alot of time so I went to my old standby - "IH Park".
I can always count on this spot producing something, so I use it as a "go to" spot. I've picked at it for about a year now and I think there have been only two times when I didn't find at least one IH. Even the wheats tend to be in the older range - more than half have been pre-1920. The ratio of silver to cents is a bit low but I ain't complaining!
This time my results were:
5 IHs - 1883, 1884, 1892, 1898, 1902 (1883 & 1892 out of the same hole)
8 wheats incl 1910, 1914, 1915, 1917, 1918
1 Liberty nickel 1912
I also found a tiny marble-like ball while I was digging a coin. It's clay or ceramic, like a marble but much smaller. I took a picture next to an IH for scale. Any ideas? Maybe a game piece or part of a primitive rattle?
My totals for a year at IH Park:
1 large cent gaming token
4 large cents
1 Canadian bank token
1 flying eagle cent
165 IHs
241 wheats (130 are pre-1920)
2 two centers
1 half reale
1 silver 3 center
4 Liberty nickels
9 buffalo nickels
1 silver war nickel
3 seated dimes
7 barber dimes
11 Mercs
3 silver rosies
2 Barber quarters
1 silver Washington quarter
1 German 2 phennig 1912
1 British 1/2 penny 1908
1 Italian 5c 1928
Also an array of artifacts including military buttons, etc.
Thanks for sharing. Bruce in Ct

AMAZING totals you have from your IH park!! Just amazing!

And, nice job pulling a few MORE goodies out of there. Incredible, incredible park you have there. I am just amazed at the amount of stuff you pull out of there. I have never seen a site that is even in the same UNIVERSE as yours, in terms of the quantity of good targets in the ground.

Nice new year digs !

I think I only found a little more than that all last year in IH's !

That must be one heck of a great park to hunt. Idigid

That's an amazing total for one area and it includes a very wide range of coins. You really covered the gamut of US coin history. Congratulations and good luck in 2012!
